Ready to take to the engine dyno shop - DROPPED IT OFF TODAY
(Preview)
Finally got the plug wires made up (the boots did NOT want to go on without a fight - I don't remember having problems like that with the race car - but this set, no matter how much silicone spray I used, they were very hard to get pushed onto the wires) - the headers were on just for fitment and routing and wil...

Demon versus Holley carb
(Preview)
Some years back, when I was gathering parts for my 496 (all forged internals, big hydraulic roller cam, Brodix aluminum heads, etc.), I bought a Mighty Demon 850 cfm 4bbl. No choke, double-pumper, recommended as part of a 600HP build in a hot rod magazine. I had always used Holley 4bbl carbs, double-...

Christmas in July
(Preview)
Carb is just on for the photo (note that I did not even bolt it down), since I will use a lift plate to get it to the engine dyno so it has to come off anyhow. The shop does not want water pump on (they have their own system) so I will install that when I get the motor back home after the dyno session. Still need to h...

Hydraulic roller lifters and cam Valve train installed and initial lash set. I wanted to use stock height valve covers so could not use full roller rockers, these are Comp Cams "Magnum Roller Rockers" which do have a roller tip but otherwise use the same system as GM. I won't need locks, tho...

Crank damper timing mark issue. Help?
(Preview)
Setting up my initial valve lash tonight, and it appears that the outer ring on my crank damper may have slipped. If I rotate the engine to get #1 to TDC, visually the piston is well on its way down by the time my pointer ends up on TDC on timing tape. I applied the tape using the original TDC line on the damper...

A milestone reached today for my 496 build
(Preview)
It turned out that the full gasket set I had ordered included the wrong head gaskets - Fel-Pro Permatorque 1017's which, when I studied them a little closer, turned out to be for 4.500" bore, and I needed 1027's for my 4.310" bore. But good ol' Summit got them here in 2 days, and I finally got to...

383 Stroker...where to start?
(

)
(Preview)
I've had it in mind lately to upgrade to a 383 Stroker. The big car really needs at least 100 more and more torque. Seen all kinds of options, from complete engines down to bare stroker blocks, short blocks and all kinds of stroker kits. Lots of stuff in the GTA. Ultimately I'd like a roller 383, 400 or so HP...
