4 speed trans swap?

Hi guys,  I just purchased a 60 Biscayne(I know its not a Pontiac)  But the Canadian Pontiacs are the same. Anyways, I'm thinking of swapping a 4 speed or 5 speed trans into it. Does anyone know of an easy swap? Or a bolt up to the original bellhousing?   Thanks, kenconfused

I know where there used to be a set of either 59 or 60 pedals and Z bar if that helps any. I will be close to that wrecking yard this weekend, although it may be gone or totally snowed under by now. It was in a Chevy wagon, and I would think they would be the same.

Thanks but I worded it wrong, imslow.gif Sorry, I'm trying to find out what trans might fit my 60 Biscayne, (its already a 3 spd column shift) so it has all the pedals. I'm gonna leave the safari as an auto..aww

Ah, ok. I would suspect a Muncie or Saginaw swap would be easiest, but I'm not sure that they go straight into your bellhousing.

I think the Yankee Pontiacs used T10's in 1960. That might be your best bet..

A Muncie M20 or 21, Saginaw, T-10 will bolt right in....with your stock bell and clutch. All you need is a 4 speed shifter and a hole in the tunnel.

I think a 5 speed from a 4.3 may also work.

So the bellhousing hole for the trans is the right size? That's cool. On the Acadians and Novas, the 3 speed has a smaller hole and the 4 speeds don't fit it. To do the swap on a Nova, you have to find a 65 or later Nova style bellhousing, or maybe 64 or later, I forget. Anyway, they must have used a smaller 3 speed than the full size cars.

A Buddy of mine is gonna be scrapping an S10 with a 4.3 w/5spd, so I'll have to hit him up for the trans.....
                                             Thanks, Guys.     Ken

Nope, never changed it....Sold it to a guy in Edmonton.  It needed an out of province inspection and I didn't want to go thru the headache.  The new owner has put a lot of cash into it, and it didn't pass. But, hes still working on it, all it needs now is a trunk pan and some lower rear quarters.  He said the guys he took it to were really picking the car apart(it was a hotrod shop)  They probably wanted him to sell it to them.
