Oh, I hadn't even thought of that. Good thing you mentioned it. That could be a problem with hood clearance then. I guess I will assemble the engine and drop it in minus intake, then do some test fitting. I really would like to run the Z intake, the more I think about it.
When I had the 427 in there with the stock iron intake, the clearance was tight. I ran an aftermarket chrome open element air cleaner and I had to saw the stud off so there was just enough to put the nut on. However, I think the 427 is a bit taller than the small block.
The Edelbrock uses the Holley pattern, right?

i was thinking about vacuum leaks with an adapter, don't think i ever saw one that didn't leak. never had an edelbrock carb, i think they're square? like the holleys.
Today was a good day! After my morning plumbing episode (see another thread...) I still found time to remove 4 exhaust manifolds from a couple of cars, sandlast 6 manifolds, coat all 6 with POR15 manifold treatment, paint my bellhousing, fork and inspection cover and shoot a few hoops with the kids to boot!
Now if my valves would hurry up, my engine compartment is about ready for an engine. As soon as they arrive, it's time to build a 327.

That is a dream, but not sure if it will happen. I have a minor surgery on my foot next Friday (clutch foot!) and I'm not sure how long that will keep my out of commission.
I would sure love to see it move under its own power before the snow flies. We have lots of plans for the summer, so it may not get worked on as much as I would like.
I'm pretty motivated to get it going because this car has not seen the highway for almost 10 years.
