here is a shot of a 51 hope this helps. I was told that the flat head 6's were sometimes painted red.

I have a '54 Pathfinder (Chieftain). It has a flat6 setup, but its been painted silver in the past decade. If you would like pictures anyways, PM me.
What have you found since? Any info would be helpful for me too.
Thanks,
Cody

I have a 52 and I believe the correct color for mine is a dark green. The body color is Alaskian Grey.

I know a guy in our loacal club has a '50 Torpedoback with a six. I found a picture I took about 4 or so years ago. Now that I look at it the engine appears to be a later 261 six rather than a flathead six. I never noticed that about his car until now. Regardless I may as well post the picture. His motor appears to be gray. As I recall the 261s were green while Chevy 235s were blue.

I saw the owner of that 1950 torpedoback last week and asked him about his engine. He said it is the stock, original 216.5 Chevy.

As I seem to recall for the Chevies around that time, the 1949 used the 216.5 only. For 1950 the 216.5 continued but the new Powerglide equipped cars used the new 235 (Powerglides were not offered on 1950 Canadian Chevies, nor were the 235s). For 1951 in the States it was the same

as in 1950. In Canada for 1951 we began to get the Powerglide as an option, but the 235 was now standard regardless of transmission.

In absence of any supporting information I'm going to stick my neck out and say that the Pontiacs of that time stuck with the same engines and drivtrains as the Canadian Chevy. Pontiac Canada's exclusive 261 Chevy truck six was not used until 1955.

I trust that someone will correct me if I'm wrong, please! teamwork.gif
