GM TRUCK TUNE UP

I have a 2001 2500HD 4 door crew cab 2wd truck I bought off e-bay in 06 8995.00  had shipped from Houston Texas..  Runs great  138,00 miles  I started RVing last year, and it pulled 04 Coyote Hybrid 24ft trailer easily!. 4700 lbs. In fall bought a new 07 PROWLER 2902 double slide trailer 34.5 ft total 8000 lbs  Truck didnt like it at all!  wouldnt go into OD, (as it had with 24 ft) I had it out, on very windy weekend last fall, and it wouldnt pull over 80km and was limping.. sooo  I changed original plugs and wires TONIGHT.. My question is- the blankety things were almost impossible to pull wires off!  I used vice grips, and pulled soo hard to get them off!   they have metal shields on them as well.. I did have one wire break easily and believe it was already broke..plugs were not bad  a couple looked melted down.. I bought NGK irid and premiun wires.. What do I use to make wires a little easier to pull off next time?

If no one else chimes in, I will try to remember to ask the techs at work on Monday.

Carl     I talked to my young mechanical friend today, and he was changing a 5.3 and had tried plugs and wires on it..  He said they are all a pain, and he said some diaelectric? grease, would help and to put shields back on.. I lubed them up and put them on  and fired it up, and believe it or not, it sounds different! 140,000 miles on original 2001 plugs   I next change the fuel filter!!  enclosed are pictures.. Can you tell if this is original ?   thanks a bunch!!!    going RVing to Port Huron KOA May 15-19

I would say that is the original. I don't see that white sticker on replacement parts. Can you blow through it easily?

i've found it easier to pull the ign wire off at the coil end 1st, then wiggle it off the plug end.

Thats what I did, Dave  and the plug end was like a rock.. Thats when I used vise grips!   The new stuff slid on nice, and is much softer...biggrin

Would that involve me, puting the gas thingie to my mouth? yuck. I will presume it was OE and presume it will work better.. I saw the arrow on the new filter, and pointed it toward the engine?.. apparantly the fuel pump is at the rear?   140,00 on OE filter unfortunately is probably not un-common? I have a cold air intake, and a JET program to put on, but wanted to tune it up first...  thanks

I seem to go through a lot of fuel filters on my Suburban. At the first sign of the engine kicking up any fuss I change it. The dealer here in Toronto charges about $40. It is easy to do with the ground clearance I have, right under the drivers seat tucked up on the frame rail. I've used 3 in 180,000 km.

Yes, point the arrow at the engine.

As long as you have it well dried off and blow through it, there should not be a problem with you sucking fuel. Besides, you might be amazed at the result if you do! It may hit you like a shot of nitrous............

THANKS SO MUCH!   That was a boost!     I did blow throught it and it seems restricted .. I lite the bbq at the same time, and that was a blast!    So let me get this straight...I was getting 10.4 mpg pulling the 34 ft trailer with yucky plugs and wires and a 7 year old fuel filter so now the truck will burn fuel, more easily????  so it will get8?  lol
