I finally got to cleaning out the trunk of the Laurentian tonight. I'm sure the spare was one of the original tires! I installed my "new and improved" redline spare (NOS thanks to Ken Leblanc) and a new rally wheel from Coker.
All I need now is a trunk mat and I'm set. There was quite a bit of 1978 vintage oil spray on the floor. I got most of it cleaned up. A complete wash of the car is all that's left before I get her appraised. Yee Haw! I'm going to be damn nervous when I finally get her out on the road! Todd
Very nice looking trunk, often an overlooked area. I got lucky because my original mat was there but not the jack or spare. Fortunately I had the right jack and lug wrench from one of my earlier cars. Did use a space saver spare from a 78 Z28 we had. I think I got the trunk splatter from the local GM dealer. Good luck with the appraisal. it's one of those two edge swords, on one hand you don't want it too high for insurance premiums but on the other hand you want to make sure it reflects your time and effort and replacement value of the car.
Yes, that's the original trunk. I never thought I'd find a Canadian 69 Pontiac as solid as this. It had been in a garage since 1978. Apparently it came out once in 1985 (I suspect the fuel pump failed as I found a towing bill from 1985 and the fuel pump looked like it was put on yesterday). The car then sat in the same garage until early last year. The car wasn't quite as nice as an Arizona car underneath. There was some flaky rust on the floors above the muffler that I had to scrape off.
Thanks for the postive plug on the spare tire supply-good words help. I often take a beating for being the buy/sell guy. Your car is a great example of how I support the hobby, it sat in a garage for years for nobody to see-I pulled it out because I liked it, marketed it and found a great new owner for the car, now its cruisin the streets to enjoy, seen at local shows contributing to the classic car hobby and I fed my family for a week or two.
