65 sd resto progress

here are some progress pics of my 65 SD.
Was a factory 283 four speed car.  I've put a 250 HP 327 from another 65 SD into this car.  I now have disk brakes, and the 308 posi is a recent addition from a 65 El camino.. I've tried to keep things as correct as possible, but it's pretty hard with Beaumonts (as if you didnt know that already).  Plus I want to be able to drive it and not worry too much if something gets hit.. (please dont hit anything...)

the cool thing is the bank account just keeps dropping...

UPDATE:  new pics of progress.  almost ready to come home for interior installation etc..

UPDATE march 15 2009 - well.. the glass goes in this week, and then it comes home for me to put back together.  If I dont end up in Vancouver working on a movie, it should be ready for spring.  YIPPEEEEE!!!

UPDATE Nov 7 09 - Slow going with work taking all the time.. but chipping away at the list of things to do.. without chipping the paint.. any more than I already have..

Looking good! What's even cooler is when the bank account drops to zero and the line of credit starts to climb!

Hey Kelly,
It's looking good. Do you think it will hit the road before it's time to put it away for this year?

Here's an interesting tidbit for you. My understanding is that I bought my 65 SD from the guy who is doing your bodywork. He got it from you and you got it from the guy who is doing the bodywork on my 67 2+2. Amazing how small the world is sometimes.

Looks good Kelly. I know what you mean about the bank account. But don't worry when you have blown the budget you're know you're about half way there.

A FANTASTIC JOB Kelly ! It kinda reminds me of my rotator and frame off, but mine was in a single car garage! I can't wait to see the finished product. Keep up the good work and keep giving us more pics ! Beaumont Lovers Unite !!!!

Looks nice Kelly, at least you had somthing pretty solid to begin with.

I'm just digging into my big car body right now, and it's on a rotis as well. Amazing how easy it makes doing work on the body. I even had the frame on one as well.
Did you do your trunk pans on the rotis, or while still on the frame?

Cheers, Mark.

Awesome progress.  I really like the stock look of the 327/4spd.
Looks like those dynacorn quarters fit great.

Just a side note to all members with 64/65 beaumonts(chevelle body styles)
the "acadian" valve cover decals are totally WRONG for the "A" body cars
they should say:   327 "super econoflame" or 283 "econoflame"
the acadian ones shown above are for the smaller acadian nova body cars

the correct valve cover decals can be purchased from a place in gorgia called "jim osborn reproductions"  the cost is about 4 dollars per decal.
now you all know the "best kept secret" for canadian valve cover decals!!!!
oh, yeah, they are the high quality gold foil stickers as exact originals too.

i have seen these exact decals being resold on ebay by some guy in ontario i think.  but he marked them up to double the factory direct price.

I had them made.. It was going to cost me 94 bucks to get one set done, or to get a bunch of sets done.. so I had half of them 327 and half of them 283.
I have an original sticker (partial) on one of my other 327 "dimple" covers and that's what I used to reproduce the stickers.  If there are folks interested in them I can get some more made?  I sold them for 11.00 per set plus the cardboard envelope and postage.. so about 13 or 15 bucks.

thanks for noticing

Hi Mark.. I didnt take on the body work myself, but I know that Chris Heighton put the pans in while it was still on the frame.. he is, however, doing the floor patches while it's on the rotisserie.  I'm looking into another 65 SD that will need all the same patches.. but this time I'm going to give it a go.. I weld for a living doing small intricate things.. but bodywork always scares me.. and I dont want to have a threat of sail boats on the waves I create in the panels.. LOL

WOW!!  thanks for the info on the stickers, I had know idea.  I got the beat up original on my valve cover and the engine came from a 65 SD autmatic car.. but I'm sure the "econoflame" is correct, as you say, since any of the Beaumonts I've seen with air cleaner stickers have the "econoflame" as well.. Cool to know.
I guess I'll be calling for the right ones..  hehee.. back to the dwindling bank account..

thanks again

the correct decals for your car would be the ones for the valve covers.  They will be  327 with "super econoflame" on the lower part (gold foil w/ black).  No horsepower callouts on the valve covers from what i have seen.

64/65 beaumonts only used the valve cover decals, No aircleaner ones
66 and up used the air cleaner ones with NO valve cover decals.

I highly recomend the osborn repros, they are excact.

my 64s have always had remnants of valve cover decals (6's and 8's) and have always been the "econoflame" styles.  without HP references.

hope this helps the pure stock resto guys

Dave

You think that is the correct decal for my 65 Canso SD when I put the 327 in then? I would never have known!

I am trying to make it look pretty authentic, so I will have to get them if so.

I bought decals from Jim Osborne in the 80's for my 66 327 Nova. He's been there a long time...

I have know idea where or why the "acadian" decals kelly has pictured above ever came from.  I wish someone has a definitive answer.
All i know is that the A-body beaumonts in 64/65 use the "econoflame" styled decals.
I supose it is possible that the smaller nova body cars used the above "acadian" engine callouts, but i am not sure.

I still think the "327 super econoflame" ones look the coolest.

well if nothing else.. it's created yet another mystery about the canadian plant putting strange parts and pieces in these cars.. LOL

I'll enclose the pic of the valve cover that was on the engine out of the 65 Acadian Beaumont SD automatic car.

Thats really interesting.  I wonder if they did the "acadian" stickers only on the 65 327s? for only one year.
I know that all the 64 V8's had the econoflame ones.
And starting in 66 and up all the aircleaner decals said econoflame, or econojet, etc.

I wonder if anyone has an original 1965 283 sticker to share.  does it look like kellys OR is it the econoflame style?

Come to think of it Joe Lizons 65 L79 327 beaumont has the "acadian" ones too.

I asked joe and suzie if they're stickers were the same as the ones I have, and they're exclusive to they're L79.. But.. I dont know if they had an original to go by, or if they just had them made. Either way they look great.

I will be watching this thread with great curiosity, that is for sure.

I would like to get the right ones on my car.

This is all new to me. I don't think I've ever seen those, but that certainly looks like an old worn out original in that pic.

How much did you pay for the white 65 SD from kelico's bodymanevileye?

How much I paid is not easily defined. He was asking $15k.
I gave him a 1980 El Camino, a truckload of parts and some $$$.
