I made it for the Friday night cruising. Had to work Saturday, so missed the big one. Kind of glad I went Friday because I heard they closed the Bluewater Bridge in Sarnia on Saturday around noon because of a bad propane (?) leak. The bridge was a nightmare for hours after that.
Anyway, this was my first time to the Woodward cruise and I loved it. Made the mistake of heading south on Woodward, towards downtown and the river. There was nothing going on there at all. Asked a couple of local fellas at a traffic stop where to go and they sent me north towards 8 Mile. That's when it got interesting. Cool cars everywhere. Classics, customs, muscle, rods, homemade wonders etc. The street was packed with people, restaurants and patio bars overflowing. It was awesome. The cruise is the great equalizer. Didn't matter the type of car, age or background of the driver, male or female. Everyone was pumped and smiling and having a great time.
About the only thing I could complain about was all the regular newer vehicles congesting the cruise. There is no reason for mini-vans, SUV's and the like to involved in this. It just congests everything and causes extra frustration.
I appreciate it would be fun to be in the cruise amongst the cruise cars, but it would be better for everyone if they just found a spot on the street and watched from a lawn chair.
Anyway, this was my impression from the Friday night cruise. I can't even imagine what the big one on Saturday was like.
