That is a good point, probably just an over sight. 1971 is generally recognized as the first year that full sized Canadian Pontiac's became available with Pontiac engines as opposed to Chevrolet.

I am sure Todd will fix it. Go ahead and post in here, we had a 1970 Oshawa Tempest being that 1969 was the last year of the Beaumont A-Body.

Welcome, and tell us about your car!  What options does it have?

Hello everyone ! Sorry Carl, I don't know Mickey, and they are Rally wheels painted. I have had this car since I was 15 years old. Now that I do the math I am floored...25 years ! Bought it off of the original owner in Ailsa Craig Ont. Beat the hell out of it through high school. Fortunatley I didn't sell it to go to school, I stored it. Did a body off restoration in '99/2000. Currently gathering pieces for another '70 455 GTO and a '70 Oshawa Judge. The gold car is a PS,PB car. Dark brown int, buckets and console. Rally gauges, hood tach
455 automatic with a 3.55 12 bolt. Thanks to all for the welcomes and I like the friendly atmosphere already....

I always thought the 1969 GTO was the first year it was available or built in Canada, they are more common than 64-68.

GTO's were built in Oshawa in only two years. 1970 and 1973.  Pontiac dealers sold the Beaumont as their intermediate up to 1969 but you could get a GTO by having the dealer import it for you I believe up to 1969. I agree however with you that 1969's are more common here than the pre 68 cars.

GTO's were always available by way of special order at Canadian Pontiac dealers.  I have some ads from Hogan Pontiac Buick when they were on the Danforth touting the introduction of the 64 GTO.  The problem was, due to import duties and excise taxes, they ended up being about a 1,000 dollars more than an equivalently equipped Beaumont.  As you know, a grand was huge dough in the sixties so you really had to want the American poncho to spring for the extra coin.  As the auto pact came into effect, the duties came down on the GTOs making them more viable to import and sell.  I have what I think is a very unique advertising piece, it is a fold out flyer from 69 Pontiac Buick dealers that has both the 69 GTO and the 69 Beaumont SD displayed together.  Obviously by 69, the phasing in of American products and the phasing out of Canadian products had begun.  Does anyone have copies of the Canadian 71-75 full size brochures?  What a mish-mash of models and engines!  In 71 you could get just about any Chevy/Pontiac engine in a full size poncho sold here except a 350 4bbl Chevy.

It's too big to scan the whole thing, I'll see if I can photocopy the appropriate part and then scan that.
