Finally, some pics of the "Green Monster"

Todd has been on my case to get some shots up of my car, well yesterday finally produced the combination of a nice day with some time on my part to go spif it up enough to warrant some new digital pictures (all previous pics I had were of the film variety).  Do I get some sort of prize now Carl 1?biggrin

This car came with exactly 5 options:  LS4 345hp 454, Turbo 400, H78-15 "HWY" tires, AM/FM radio and drumroll......cruise control.  That's it, manual steering and manual drum brakes!jawdrop.gif  If this car had been ordered in the southern US as a "Bis-Quick", it would have been the classic moonshine running special.  Apparently the original owner ordered it in order to make relaxed cruising runs down to Florida.  I have a copy of the original bill of sale, grand total for this mean machine - $4446.00.  427strato was the previous owner.

That's a great car Hillar. Do you know how many Strato chief coupes were made with the 454?

All George could break it down to was that were 221 Pontiacs (all models Strato Chief through Grand Parisienne) built with the LS4.  From talking with other people in the hobby over the years, we figure my Laurentian is probably one of maybe a dozen with that engine?  George also told me that the total production of all LS5 cars (390hp) both Chevrolet and Pontiac all models in 1970 was less than 200.

Thanks Dave.  You'll see in the next batch of pictures I post I've still got paper towels on the passenger side front floor trying to sop up the coolant that spilt out when it blew up!mad.gif

laughing.gif   I guess we have to give the prize to you!!! Not just sure what the prize is yet, but way to go with the pics. That is such a cool car. And who ever would order a big block, fm and cruise, then stop??? Must have run out of money.

Boy, that is one neat car!

No, apparently that is exactly the way he wanted to order the car.  From what I understand, he had a history of ordering full size cars with big engines and had grown up with manual steering and manual brakes and saw no reason to change.  Sure makes for a neat oddity!

You're right Hillar...It would be fitting as a moonshine car!

Totaly Awsome.

So I take it 70' was the first year for the blue conformance decal?

How's it pull with the 454?

Well I have seen 69 model year cars built in the 69 calendar year with the label, primarily Camaros, but I have not seen any 69 model year Canadian built cars with it.  I think it may have been phased in earlier in some plants in the US.

The car has the standard 2.56 rear end so nothing earth shattering off the line but if you want to pass someone on the highway - WHOOOOSH!  I have no idea what the top end is but I'd like to find out.wink
With manual steering and brakes and Ontario's fascist speeding legislation I'm not planning to test it out any time soon unless someone has a airstrip I can borrow.  I have a 3.31 ring and pinion as well as a posi and a Crane extreme energy cam I'm planning to install with a "massaged" Q-Jet, that will complete the LS5 conversion and should liven things up a little bit.biggrin

rofl.gif I thought you'd like that one Ray!

I know the feeling. Since buying our first SS in 2000, I have pretty much thought there is no other late model car made beside the B/D body cars!

Your car is an excellent example of a rare and very unusal Canadian Pontiac. Congratulations!   I had a 1970 2t2  with a 350-300 in 1982. That was a great highway cruiser and my wife just loved driving it with the 300hp engine. Ours was the same colour as yours and my wife affectionally nicknamed the car " The Pickle". Unfortunately the car was hit in the side and the frame broke behind the drivers door. The 350 was used in a couple of dirt track stock cars for a couple of seasons. I know how your car would feel on the highway as I had a 1969 Caprice with a 427-390 hp 2:73 gears before "The Pickle".  I am sure glad to see an original example of a 454 Canadian Pontiac.  Al

That's one great looking, go fast, get in, sit down, shut up and hang on Laurentian!!!! A real oddly optioned car as well. Would love to find a pre-made car with all the "go" bell whistles installed, but they are definately rare! I usually find the 6 banger no nothing units and have to mirror image myself in what I want to be if I were the car! Sometimes a little more fun though, as they are an extension of me!
This is my example: The Green "not so" monster..6 cyl Parisienne, THM350 with 2:73 rear axle. Acquired in Aug '89 after 14 years of resting in the same spot due to an unpaid fender repair in '75. 35025 miles on the clock. Pulled A great interior from a '70 Laurentian, hence the color change. Seats from a '66 Impala-correct ones not to be found at the time.
So after some eng/trans combinations, in '91 did my first and her first ever makeover--paint--#48 and #10, carpet, wheels and a bunch of things I should have done such as clean the engine bay but it is original and the way it was including her panels. Also did my first EFI conversion the same time, a 350ci that many of the old GM guys said couldn't be done. I was 24, what the hell do I know!!!!! But, it worked, with the amazement and grumbles of all the nay sayers!!! Have done 4 others since with refindments along the way as I became more comfortable with it.  Added 4-gear Warner and duals.
Shortly after, a 3:08 posi from a '69 4-dr post Laurentian , 6 banger, with a RCMP option sized sway bar. Discs, map light, tilt from an '85 Malibu, wanted dimmer on the wheel! Delay wipers from an '80's p/u and p/locks. For some reason, electrical/driveability and I get along!!!!
Then in '94, added the 454 from a '91 Crew Cab and still didn't do the engine compartment!!  Saved the valve covers off the new Targetmaster as the yellow Goverment D.N.D truck didn't look good with them!!!! (lol) Added a 5-speed New Process from a '94 1/2 ton and fitted the hydralic slave.
Since '97 other than add a map lamped mirror, p/windows, original trunk release, and the free PMD hood tach, nothing has changed on the exterior. Other than the non correct items you Guru's will notice, for sure, and with the exception of the typical chips and bubbling around the wheelwells this is the way she sits.
So, not the Green Monster such as Hillar's but further along that the "no so" monster she started out to be.
Would be interesting to know where she came off the line compared to Hillars as the dates of manufacture and the first 2 digits of the sequential are the same????

Here are a couple of more pics. A repro of the original Dealer decal per another thread, original non slip diff tag, (not sure if original but was on a '68 Biscayne door in the same spot), Pontiac mats, and a working hood tach (for sure not original!!) Plus, I added rear seat entry lamps as it was pitch black with out them. Most of you will know them from the late '80's Astro vans. Added under dash lamps as well. Didn't have them.

That's cool too. You should post a fuel injection how to article. I'd love to read about the conversion.

Stephen, no the roof isn't vinyl. It is the #10 white painted roof she came with. And Todd, sure would like to do an EFI thread in the near future. From the fuel pump mods in the tank to fitting the VSS buffer in the speedo head. Alot of mind cramps involved to, will it work, to, it should work, to, it has gotta work, its gonna work!!!! Only problem is my mind thinks alot faster than I can type.....hmm. No typing lessons at my school!!!!
And, the second pic is of my Rag at stages showing the injection as well.
