Same colour as the one I learned to drive on, dad's was saddle interior with a bench and column shift, Rally II wheels. We had a bare chrome bumper too, no rub strip. We had straight back chrome tail pipe extensions not Firebird splitters.

Nice memories, of course I love it. thumbsup.gif

For sure Carl, you had one too! That colour was a real head turner back in 72. I say 72 because that's when we got ours, September 1972. Must have been one of the first ones out of Oshawa. Purchased at Hogan Pontiac Buick on Danforth Avenue in Toronto.

Anybody want to buy a 65 El Camino, 70 Mustang, and or a 1991 Ranger? With this one and the blue one I need to sell one of my current fleet.

Well it was resting in my driveway last week. Does that count? No Ray posted about the 73 GTO in blue on ebay.

I always need at least three cars in Red, Green and Blue. This brown one will throw off my equilibrium, but I am okay with that!

The same seller had a 75 Grand Am listed a few weeks ago. He stated in that auction that he was thinning his collection. I wonder what else he has?

Pontypool is only about 20 minutes from me..
I can't ever recall specifically this car or know of this guy?. I'm bad on remembering colors but do remember seeing one or more '73 Goats in this area over the years..

Still wonder what happened to the one up by Bobcaygeon I saw parked last summer and I mentioned here a few months back.. Need to make a road trip someday and see if it's still there!.

That car got bid up to about $5K or so, didn't make reserve.  It's an awfully tough  market to be selling into, stock market crashing, people worried about their jobs and a recession looming, winter coming....doh

There probably are not that many true Canadian built 73 GTO's left. There were only 231 units produced out of Oshawa Ontario. At least that is what the paperwork from GM Canada states.

You figure after 35 years, most of them probably went to the crushers. No different than every other year until now when all the old cars have become collectable.

Most US web sites show 4,806 1973 W62 optioned LeMans being produced. Do we think Canadian prodcution is included in that figure ?

Also Just wondering what your documentation says. Since GTO was not a model rather an option on the Colonade hardtop (494) or Sport Coupe (4,312)how would they know how many. Does you letter show how many have W62 option? Your model must be F37 and it is just like mine so my letter says 3,761 F37's produced and that's all. Your car has to be one of them.

I have to be honest and say I've only ever seen in person two Oshawa 1973 GTO optioned LeMans.

I would say that is on his GM letter. Mine states there is only 1,866  GTO's produced for sale in CANADA:(same model no. only)Mine is a 1970 455. I thought they where talking about engine size as with the 73. They sold more 70 GTO's in CANADA then 1,866.

The 1866 # for 1970 GTO's may reflect Canadian production but US produced units were also shipped here plus some Canadian produced units shipped to the US...perhaps offshore too?.

On the '73 GTO's, a bit of Googling gleaned a couple interesting results..   One notes the same 231 total as above but no idea if either are accurate or if for one or both styles?.

"...I believe one of my 3 other 73 GTO's is one of the twelve 4-speed sport coupes assembled in Canada. VIN #2F37T31531076..."
http://www.abodysite.com/rr73gtobrucemiddlemass.html

"...I ran a GM vintage report on it and found that there were only 231 units built at the Oshawa plant for sale in Canada (This is the rarest year of all the Goats)..."

Ray; This is what my paperwork states for the VIN and Model on my car

Vehicle: 1973 Pontiac GTO
Vin: 2F37T31508*** (I didn't want to publish the last 3 digits)
Model Number: 2AF37 - Lemans 2dr sport coupe
Number Produced For Sale In Canada:
(Same Model No. Only) 3,761 (231 with W/62)

Option W62: GTO Performance Package

W62 includes: Spewcial engine with dual exhaust system, G60x15 tires, special suspension with extra capacity front and rear shocks and stabilizer bars, special front styling with hood scoops, black grill and GTO identification.

It is a very good question as to whether or not the 231 each Canadian built cars are included in the US numbers. In "The Big Little GTO Book" the 4806 production figures were compiled by the GTO Association of America from information provide by General Motors and Mr Chuck Jones of Urbana, Illinois.
In the Catalog of Pontiac GTO ID Numbers 1964-74, the only mention of the Oshawa plant is for the following years only: 1970, and 1973. I cannot see that the GTO Association would leave out the production figures of the Canadian built cars otherwise they would have incorrect production figures when they know that the Oshawa plant existed and produced units. I agree that it would be nice to 100 percent confirm this, however, I suspect that we will never know for sure.

Thanks for posting that info Mike, it is both interesting and helpful.

My VIN is 2F37K31510***

It looks like my car is built at least 2,000 units after yours on March 9, 1973. What date is yours made? With your information we can probably get a good idea of the rate of production.  I have no idea how many LeMans were built at Oshawa. I have read that some Grand Ams were bulit there too but most Pontiac experts disagree.

As I posted somewhere before my dad had an early car that we bought the first week they came out from dealer stock, probably September 1972. It was a2AF37 model as well.

Do not know who the dealer was of the Valencia Gold one in Ontario, as it is not mine. The dealer of mine was Jim Pattison in Vancouver, B.C.

Ray, My GTO was built on Jan 22/73. I think the 3761 units includes the Lemans, Lemans SC, and GTO. I cannot see that they made 3530 Lemans SC and 231 GTO's for the total 3761. That would be quite a lot of Sport Coupes. I wonder if the Grand Ams are a 2AF37 model?? Does anyone know? I have never checked.

Here's how the model designations go:

2AD 37 - 2dr Colonade HT
2AD29 - 4dr Sedan
2AF37 - 2dr Sport Coupe
2AD35 - 2 seat Station Wagon
2AD45 - 3 seat Station Wagon
2AG37 - 2dr HT Luxury Coupe
2AG29 - 4dr Luxury Sedan
2AH37 - 2dr Sport Coupe Grand Am
2AH29 - 4dr Sedan Grand Am

So from this 2AF37 is your's and mine for a total of 3,761. We can't say how many are W62 GTO because W62 was also available on model 2AD37.

In a 6 week period your car and mine were made with at least 2,000 units between them which I assume includes all of the above models. On this basis it looks like production could be at least 22,000 units for Canada for all LeMans cars. Generally Canada runs at 10% of US prodcution and I have seen figures of about 250,000 units for Lemans in the US, so this estimate of 22,000 is plausable.
