Well, READ THIS (With thanks to Yenko.net for the link)

What a freakin mess this could turn out to be.

You pretty much have to be a forensics investigator anymore to determine if some of these cars are real or not.

I read that yesterday too..
Sadly it drags guys like Jerry M. into the mess who will stop doing the good things they do to keep away from the foolishness..
Regardless of what some people say/think or how commonplace it's become, transfering Vins (in some States Trim tags too) is illegal...even having loose tags around can get you in a heap o' trouble!.

I think this Quite common.I owned a 71 Judge,It was tough, orig motor long gone, looked OK but it needed a "rebody".I sold it to a guy in Kentucky in 92.Found it this year on Ebay for 80K restored. Now it has it's orig motor, trany and all orig body panels.Come on! I emailed seller to say that it was my old car.Never heard back!Figured I'd leave it alone.

Its all about money and thats what is sad with this hobby sometimes. If it wasent for the people on this site i might not have even kept my car but its the nice comments and seeing everybody excited about eachothers cars that reminds me why i like doing this.If your just doing it for the money and not the love of cars than that is what's sad. And maybe its just me but wrenching on cars with my Dad or my brothers and the nice people here(thanks Todd!!) is what it is all about, and oh yeah, gettin thrown back in your seat and the sounds of that exhaust!!!

If I were rich..... I'd buy the Z28, find the original #'s on it somewhere,( there will be a trace of them no doubt). Then change it back to a 250 inline 6, with column mounted shifter and a Powerglide again! Might as well paint it back to beige with a tan interior

psst wanna buy some tags for a car that i crushed. ya right. and they are only for demo purpose. he knew they were going to replicate the car and hes trying to cover his butt, cause his name was on the ownership at one time, probably sorry he didn't do it for the 125 g's

The whole thing seemed to start out relatively innocent but the final decision would be interpreted by the reader. Not unlike the car I suppose. Real or not?
A lot of people immediatley assume the worst case scenario which makes it tougher for the guys with real cars. I would think that Barrett-Jackson has some type of disclaimer to cover themselves. They only know what they are told by the current owner and he only knows what the previous owner told him, and so on. Who's to blame? Who's responsible? If one owner sold it and disclosed the reallity of the car is he responsible?
This is a real pickle isn't it?

Rats, and I missed it all.

From what you guys are saying, one more reason just to have fun with old cars and never mind the high dollar nut and bolt restorations, which I do actually enjoy seeing though.

The guy who said he removed the tags and buried the body of the Camaro retracted his statements after being threatened with legal action.

Was it really legal action or was he going to be fitted with cement shoes?

Besides the above, he could've been facing his own hot water w/ the feds for removing tags and a section containing a hidden Vin from a vehicle, offering these same items for sale and for actually selling them too?.

Good example to shake things up and long overdue..
So much of this has been going on in recent years that many think it's somehow legal to do a rebody..
It's not!.

What a story. Makes me stay in with the idea it's better to buy a car that's rough around the edges, might not be a rare car but if it's got what you like, work on finishing it up and live with a decent vehicle that hasn't been tampered with in an untoward way. It will still go up in value. Chances are these really rare ones are either really gone to the scrapyard in the sky. And besides...i know i don't think i'd want a $125 000 car...i could get at least 5 or 6 decent rides for that money.

There is a Canadain built RA 1V 1970 GTO that has been retagged and I've seen it acouple times with different owners. It also was going for $125,000 on Ebay and that's alot of money for a Lemans body and frame with some GTO parts.
The guy I knew tried sueing, but the other guy claimed to be Bankrupt.

I agree...i would hate to see it get so that one of us shows pics of our car and then we get flack saying that isn't correct, and those didn't come like that.  I like things how they are...easy going and correct VINs!
