On my way out the door but I had to share this Z-16 Survivor on Yenko.net w/ you guys before I left.. I don't have time to compare but check that air cleaner closely Carl...are these snorks that same wide width and does yours have that edge on the snorks an in an inch or so from the base like this one?.
"True survivor cars" are bar none the most interesting cars out there. They are a real treasure and anyone should feel fortunate to own one or even see one.

This "Carl" has a air cleaner of actual unknown vintage. Was bought at Super Chevy event in Martin Mi. in 1988 I always thought it was a 701/2 Z28..It looks very similar to the Z16

I've got one too, no idea what it was originally on although it looks closer to your's Carl.
Thank you so much for sharing that.. I love the z-16's.. I had an opportunity to buy one about 10 years ago.. glad I didnt now.. I'd be too scared to drive it anywhere.. very cool..
I have seen pics of a Z16 at the Keystone, Bison dragways many years ago. I wonder where it was from and what happened to it???

I believe that is the one that has been making the rounds on the North Dakota show circuit. It's driver quality, which is nice to see.
Someone told me that there's actually 2 Z16's in northern ND/MN. I've seen the one at 2 different car shows now, but never ran across the other one yet.

Anyone want to guess at it's value as it sits? i have no clue myself, but I know it's outta my league.
I was wondering the same thing myself. Here is a link to one that was listed Nov 1 for sale that is restored. Is an original unrestored car worth this much money? Considering what it would cost to do the resto I would think not. Even if it is worth half of that it's still $100,000. Myself, I would prefer the unrestored car, not because it's cheaper, but because it will only ever be that way once. I have a 69 SD so what is a survivor car worth. Probably not as much as a Z16 but it is a rarer car.
I agree about having an original. It will take time but I think the SD 396 Beaumonts will hit the USA radar one day, then the prices will go up.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope you are wrong. The high dollar cars take away some of the fun from this great hobby. While it's fun having a car that only rich guys can afford, it takes away the fun when it gets so expensive you are scared to drive it!

That is a real concern. It happened with older Corvettes and hi performance Mopars. I had a 63 Corvette coupe that got to be a car I never drove due to fear of wrecking it or theft. I always wanted one as a kid, bought it finally in 1989 sold it less than 2 years later as I couldn't enjoy driving it. The Corvette crowd was another reason, but I won't get into that. I also had a 69 Charger R/T 426 Hemi car. But when I bought it the original engine was long gone and it had a 440 in it. That was in 78 and it wasn't even worth $2000. I beat on that one without mercy, and sold it at the end of the summer for I think $1400.
You're right about the cost of some of these cars, thanks to Barret Jackson everyone thinks their car is gold. Some of them are but I think it's called fools gold, and the more you spend the less time you spend enjoying. The wife drives our vette to work and shopping, meant to be driven, not like some vet owners who have more money invested in polishes than we have in the whole car. As you can tell we don't belong to any vet clubs.
The air cleaner looks similar to later 60's Corvette and wasn't the Z16 motor a Corvette engine option originally? ARCADIAN
The Z16's were an L37 396 w/ hydralic lifters and a 375 Hp rating.. The 'Vettes and Big cars got the L78 396 w/ different cam and solid lifters which in '65 was rated at 425.. The next year they rated the L78's at 375 and the L72 427's came out w/ a Hp rating of 450 then dropped to 425..
