2 grand will get you an installed muncie though. i'm converting that green impala to a 4spd mark. add the cross shaft bracket to the frame, hang the pedals,('69-'70 are slightly different, don't know if cdn pont are the same as chev?), scare up a 168 tooth bellhousing, correct fork/stud, flywheel, clutch, shifter and trans. carl2 bailed out on his 4spd conversion, he probably has parts to 'donate'.

Can you get the cross shaft bracket separately, and if so where? Are you using M20 or M21?

john, hubbards impala parts sells a weld-on repro bracket, i used a camaro bracket that bolts on. i heated, bent and trimmed it to the right shape and bolted it on the impala frame. using an M21(2.20 1st gear) in the green car.
Thanks Dave. When I had my first 68 Impala, I put a 454 in it with a Muncie M21 2.20 first gear. But I was running it with a stock 3.31 12 bolt posi from a 69 Impala, and I found the gearing of the trans didn't work too well with the rear axle gears. Are you running an M21 in your Bel Air, and if so, what rear gears are you running with it?
I've managed to pick up an M21 68 date code with the PG style yoke, and an M20 73 date code with the later T400 style yoke. I'm trying to decide which combo would be best for my 63 409 Impala in which I will be running a 3.36 rear gear. And which combo would be best in a bigger car like a 65-68 Chev or Pontiac 2 dr post (in the event I ever find the right body). Appreciate any advice.
i've got an M20(2.52 1st) in the bel air with 3.73s out back. works well to get that weight off it's butt. oddly, but i've never had a 2.20 1st gear muncie car before. my L79 chevelle was an M20 with 3.31s, moved out well. mind you the 325hp probably didn't hurt either.

If I can chime in and for what it's worth, my 66 427 Grande Parisienne was a wide ratio with 3.31 gears so that would be very similar to what you are thinking. I would not have wanted a close ratio in that one.
On the flip side, at the same time I had a 66 L79 Nova with 3.73 and a close ratio. The close ratio worked perfect in that one too.
I have always thought a 3.55 could go either way and 3.31 or taller needed M20, 3.73 and lower needed M21 ratios. Of course tire height is a consideration too.

That's consistent with what i found with the M21/3.31 gear combo in my Impala. So I need the wide ratio with the higher gear, and close ratio with the lower gear.
While on the topic of 4 speeds, does anyone know where to get a decent wide ratio Saginaw 4 speed?
Had good day today! took out cross memeber to flatten out a little spot, shifter linkage, was rubbing used a 50 ton press! did a great job except everything is now hitting exhaust see If I can locate one tomorrow
you need this b-body hurst shifter mount bracket....
mounts the shifter about 1/2" to 3/4" higher to clear the rev rod and the bend in the x member.
ah thats it! I was looking for the fix..knew you had mentioned it... I bought back my Hurst shifter kit for 63-64 b body and chevelles and novas etc the "only"difference in the kits is the mount! I am going to try and locate another cross member tomorrow.. the shifter was only touchng the reverse lever at the mount next time I will just cut out a little slice.. the heat, would not allow me to bend it , so we tried 50 ton press lots of fun
Last year Dave B. showed us/me where the tab, for the z-bar, went on the frame.. I didn't remeber until today, that I had welded the tab (in the car) and it was not close enough to outside of frame.. Last year, my friend Dave J. "bent" the lever going to clucth pedal, to allow it to clear rag joint of steering column.. I decided today, to modify the bar to look more "original" lol I also cut a 1/4 of inch off inside to help install easier here are photos of course I "cooked" the nylon bushing in the end that goes in tab thankfully, I had a extra to steal from lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
