Lots of '67's popping up on here!!! That's grrreat!!!! Richard, you will have to tell us more about yours......Good show!!! Here is the chart from the parts catalogue that is the same description as 68sd's. Also a pic of my Rag as well!!!
68sd you got a great looking car. They sure are fun to drive. The Pontiac is a Rescue Car. I rescued her from British Columbia. She has 55000 original miles original interior in excellent shape, she has been painted but has some chips to repair, having trouble matching the paint. Rear speaker works, I was told at appraisal thats rare. The wife let me buy her cause she likes the color. But Now the wife just likes to cruise.

heres the paint chart for your year
Fred where do get this stuff? My Strato Chief is Prov white and the butternut color is close to my Ventura (dont know its real color) Thanks Carl
I have colour charts, tune-up charts, factory service, fisher body and assembly manuals as well as parts books for every one of my cars. Those are the first things I would get at any swap meet after acquiring any car.

I had about 200 RM paint sample sheets that I bought at a yard sale for 2 bucks. They were 1963 and older-all makes, domestic and import. They did very well on ebay. I have about 20-30 left.
Hey 67 Ponch: You have some great stuff there that I can maybe use to get the chips or even repaint my car. I tried to print your GMC passengers color sheet but its not that clear is there anyway we can get a good copy of that page.

Looks like I misread the GM documentation. Sorry guys. A more carefeul reading of Georges letter to my bro actually said, " Only 74 Parisienne Custom Sport 2 door sport coupes and convertibles were built with the L33 engine."
just for your info folks. (nearsighted) ken

there are production # for 70 safari estate LS4, but does any one know what they are for a LS5, i asked george zapora at gm historical but all he could tell me was 75 LS5's in all pontiacs
Dan, is yours confirmed as being an LS5? The reason I ask is that the LS5 only came with dual exhuast and I understood that dual exhaust was not available on wagons? Did George provide you with a breakdown of LS4 wagons but he couldn't do it for LS5's?

hey hillar yes he confirmed its an LS5, it has remanants of duals but the sheet states number produced in canada (same model no. only) 505. so i phoned him and he said all he could tell me for sure was that 75 of all pontiacs came with an LS5 only 15 LS5's with single exhaust?
To sum up it says that wagons were single exhaust and it lists the reduced HP ratings for wagons every time it speaks of a particular engine, in most cases the 400 sbc, 396 (402) bbc and 454 bbc. I worked it out to be 15% less HP which is consistent with what all GM litertature generally says for duals.
It also says, and I recall this to be true, that Chevy wagons first got duals in 1975 and 1976 with the 454. I remember this system because we put it on a buddy's 75 Cutlass. It was not dual on Safaris however.
So, here's my question. What is the difference in an LS4 and an LS5 other than single vs. dual exhaust ? Seems to me that duals add 15% so the two would be equal output.

I've discussed this with seventy2plus2 off line. His response:
"From what I've been able to tell, the only differences in 1970 LS4 vs LS5 is the low lift vs high lift cam, 5/16" vs 3/8" pushrods, distributor and carb."
Plus the dual exhaust of course, except on wagons. I guess they just didn't bother to come up with a separate hp rating for LS5 wagons.
Dan, the remnants of the dual exhaust system you found on your car are probably part of a replacement system. I'm sure the car came from the factory with a single exhaust. Do you have the build sheet for your car? A dual exhaust would be indicated on there as N10 I believe.
Since the only car that a single exhaust LS5 would come in would be a wagon, I think we can safely deduce from George's response to you that there were a grand total of 15 LS5 wagons built in 1970. Cool, another bit of information generated from people getting together on this site!

Thanks Hillar for that. I hate to be so bold but using the 15% rule seems to me the LS5 with a single exhaust would be around 332 HP and an LS4 with duals would be 396 HP ??? Who knows ? Just brings published HP ratings into question yet again.
As for duals they are RPO N10 and George would have listed them. Does a wagon even have a double hump cross-member for duals?
Good deduction to arrive at 15 wagons Hillar!
