65 Acadian Canso SD off Kijiji

Check out what Carl1 gave me a tip on!  He saw the Kijiji ad, sent it to me, and asked if I would at least check it out since I am close by.  I had to wait about a week to get away from work to go and look.  Car was still there when I had time to go see it.  Guess no one on here saw the addbiggrin.  Anyhow, I called Carl after looking at the car and said that I was pretty sure I wanted it but hadn't left a deposit.  Before I get home, I call the owner up and let him know that I would buy the car.  Now he says that he needs to talk to his fiancee and that he would call me back in 2 days.  Well.....the tension frustrated.gif  I was sure wishing I had just made the deal on the spot.  As it turns out, he met the girl a year ago and had owned the Acadian for 12 years.  I need not give my opinion here. You guys decide.  The guy does call back in two days like he said and we made arrangements for purchase and pickup.  This happens to be Sunday morning so its 24 hours before I can get to the bank and then 3 1/2 hours driving to get there.  Well this gives the guy almost 28 hours to change his mind.  When I looked at the car, he said that he didn't really want to sell it or need to.  When I arrive at his place to buy the car, he helps me load it and we do the paperwork.  I can see, this was not a happy man!  I felt awful for the guy.  I'm not to good at letting go of cars either.

So, the first pics I'll post here are of the car how I first saw it.  I'll post more in the days to come with some of the history of the car.  I owe a great big thanks to Carl for finding this one. number1.gif

That is 2nd paint but it is from the late 70s. 108,000 miles. Original 283 with powerglide is gone. Now 327 and th350.

Yes, this is the second time I "made" him buy a car.
About 5 years ago he came to visit and we spent a bunch of time ripping around in my 94 Impala (the "nice" SS of the 2).
Well sure enough, right after he went home one came up for sale in Winnipeg and he forced me to go make a deal on it for him.
Now he blames me for hanging around here on the occasional vacation and looking at my Acadian.
Not only does he go buy my identical twin but then he blames me for it just cause I showed him the ad when he was shopping for one anyway!!!

We may be uncle/nephew but sometimes I think we were born twins joined at the part of the brain that likes cars!

GM documents ordered today for it. I tried to see if I could get the full page like I did when they documented my Acadian around 1990 but he just laughed and said they quit that when they noticed they were sending out a full page of serial numbers with key codes every time they documented a car.

I can still get key codes for old cars through work but I have to prove ownership and it costs.

What a nice car! You guys in Western Canada are so fortunate to still have such great old cars.
I can't wait to see some more pictures. I feel bad for the seller but happy for you. smile

I think this car is exceptional for our area.  The key difference with this car is that it has not been a daily driver since the 70s and maybe never was.  It was owned buy car enthusiasts from 1982 until present.  The owners have always looked after this car.  I have the appraisal from 1986 and these next pictures are from 1984.  How cool is that, when you get some vintage pics with a car?

Yes this the one.  It must not of been much of secret if everyone was waiting to see it!  blahblah.gif

He was great about keeping low key so I had the chance to buy it.

See, your secrets are safe with me guys. I may be bouncing off the wall with excitement, but I won't spill the beans and spoil the surprise!

I guess I am just so excited because it's pretty cool to have your nephew own an identical twin to one of your own cars.

Actually, his is older. It was made about 5 months before mine.

He is waiting now for the documents to see if they reveal any more secrets about the car. Well, more like WE are waiting. I'm awful excited about it too!!!

Because of the circumstances involved in this deal, part of the Manitoba CP coffee round table discussion last night involved selling cars to get married.....

I think we were all in agreement on how we, as men think this should work!

Those early rally wheels looked good..  Did you have to give them back to the seller?

The car only came with the wheels on it now.  I didn't care for the other style wheels in the pictures.  They are of a newer vintage than the car.  What I have done is replaced the spinners with a hubcap and added trim rings.  Still haven't decided if I like the small hubcap.

As well, I checked the engine block casting and it appears to be a 350.  I guess it will just have to wear 327 clothes smile .

Here are a few pics of the car in the trailer arriving at its new home.  One pic of the engine compartment.  The paint is in very rough condition.  It is rough like sandpaper and has a dull chalky look to it.  Shows up every dirty finger print.

My Beaumont has outlasted a few in the last 20 years.....is that wrong priorities?  Not likely.  It had to go in storage starting in '93.  Priority was still family but at no time was selling the car a discussion.  Maybe, "out of site, out of mind"?  Anyhow, I'm fortunate enough to have the car my father took us to the movies in on a Friday night as a family, the car I was first pulled over in with a license that was 3 hours old, and many more stories.  Obviously no comparison to the stories of having a wife and family but I don't think the two should be compared.  A car should be more like a pet or just an addition to the family.  Not one or the other.  A family can share the enjoyment of a car.  Now if the woman you are chosing doesn't like cars and you do clueless.gif  Just my

Maybe................. rofl.gif

She is a very understanding woman. I don't smoke, don't drink, don't fool around on her so she is very tolerant of my one and only bad habit!!
