Relying on Technology Instead of Common Sense

A fellow called me from Hamilton about my truck. He arranged to come out early this morning to have a look. Now I'm up at 5:30am every day so I really relish being able to sleep in on the weekend (till 9 that is). However, he wanted to be here for 8 so I got up at 7 and awaited his arrival. I got a call about 8:15 from the guy and he says "I'm standing on your Porch". I look out and say "No you aren't". "Yes I am". "No you're not". I said "Are you in Ingersoll?". He says "Yes". We compare notes. Turns out his navigation system took him to Wellington St in London, not Ingersoll. confuse

This is the SECOND time I've had something for sale and a potential buyer ended up in London, thanks to his navigation system! Doesn't anyone have any common sense???  He came from Hamilton so he would have passed all the Ingersoll turn offs on the 401. He was running short on time so he is coming back on Tuesday. Hopefully he'll leave the nav system off this time..

Those gps systems are funny things. I've had two stories on the newswire over the last couple months of them directing people right into the lake. In laws used one on a drive from Tillsonburg to St. Thomas one day, kept wanting us to turn at the next road to get to the major hwy. Then it finally shut up. It was a female voice so i guess she got tired of us ignorning her! Even using mapquest i have to type in Saint Thomas, instead of St. Thomas to get directions from our place to anywhere or vice versa giving a map to someone else. Personally, my GPS is a map.

He was probably too busy texting while sipping his latte'and having a smoke to be bothered with the fundamentals of driving.
I see this everyday on the 401. Usually a person in a VW Jetta Diesel in the passing lane doing way past the limit weaving in and out. Same ones complain about poor mileage while doing 145

I get customers all the time who's car looks more like the kitchen table inside than a drivers seat! One customer had a half eaten bowl of cereal between the seats!

I dont have a GPS,  and I turned onto I 75 in Detroit, the other day, and knew I was going wrong direction.. I stopped and "asked" and was on Telegraph Road..  I drove 5 miles down Telegraph, and was 3/4 mile from airport.. biggrin  I usually Mapquest ,and have a idea where Ingersol or Hamilton is..   Did you see the write up, about the girl, in Woodstock area, who upset her car, and was imbarrassed when the rescure crew, saw her bowl of cereal, and milk spilt all over her!   lol   If your potential customer went to London, it proved he sure wasn't looking around himself.. Just staring at GPS

it's amazing how out of it some people can be...had a lady call 2 weeks ago trying to find our lot, "i'm on burton st." i told her i had no idea where that was. she didn't have a clue what area she was in, north or south of us, or how to get back to a major road.

Boy, my simple country life isn't all bad. We use directions like "turn at the dead cow in the ditch", or "turn right where the barn is falling down" etc.

I get the opposite-people ask for directions-I give them every detail and they still miss me-the other night I directed someone from Whitby-they got all the way here but kept missing the subdivision street to my place-he passed it back and forth about five times ! they always say yup yup but don't write anything down ! Anyway how come I'm suppose to know how to get from your place to mine even though I've never been at your place ?

If it wasn't for Henry Ford and his "assembly line"  and $5.00 a day wages, we probably not have PONTIAC's

Yep, perfect PEI directions!biggrin

Another "PEIism":
Q: How far away is Charlottetown from here?
A: about 45 minutes, depending on the weather.
