Before we moved back to the farm we lived in a house in town with gas heat. I suppose most of you have that but we have electric heat now and I am thankful. That gas heat always scared me.

We've got two, one in the furnace room and one on the main floor. We have propane heat as no natural gas lines where we live. The carbon monoxide sensors are really sensitive as the one on the main floor starts making noise when we have a fondu supper.
I have one located in the furnace room and one in my bedroom. I also bought a couple more at a recent Cdn Tire sale, my understanding is that these things eventually wear out as well like smoke detectors?
The important thing to note is that these only go off when something has already gone wrong! Just like our cars, preventative maintenance is important!
If you have a gas furnace, particularly if it is an older one, please make sure to have it cleaned and inspected annually. I had mine done a couple of weeks ago and after he was done, the tech went around with a carbon monoxide meter and measured all around the furnace and various ducts and outlets. I was happy to see that he got zero ratings all around. Every year before winter I also get up on my roof and inspect the chimney to make sure there are no blockages or cracks that would allow foreign matter to get in.

We have a CO2 detecter with our alarm company. Since the garage is monitored 24/7 it only makes sense that we are too.
I wonder if they are like the security firms, advertising on TV.. Your house 'blows up " and the phone rings, and a guys says, we had a notice that your house blew up! Are you alright , we will call for help right away lol lol
Apparently you can't get a CO2 detector within 25 miles of here. I just heard the OPP officer passed away today. What a shame. They showed photos of the family on the news. Very sad.

Why do people always do things after something happens??? I guess that thinking of it will never happen to me. They buy an alarm after they're broken into. Get a immobilizer for the car after it's been stolen and around here they get snowtires when the snow hits the ground. They are going to get a big surprise this year as most snowtires are unavailible due to the new law of mandatory snowtires in Quebec
I bought one today My daughter called, and hollered at me, for not have one... She used to live close, to the family lost, in Woodstock Human nature causes us to react after the fact..
