A funny picture from summer holiday 08

disbelief About four hours into my summer holidays this past summer!  No ticket.  Just pulled me over because its a black car with tinted windows.  Searched me for drugs & weapons.  Held me on the side of the road for a half hour and then sent me on my way.  All I could think is that a criminal wouldn't be driving a car that stands out....

Just saying there are two sides to every story. A very close family member works in law enforcement and they don't pull anyone over for JUST driving a black car with tinted windows. Most people have no idea what proceedures and follow up is required if they did.

Ray

I want to respectfully disagree with you. The car he is driving is a last generation Impala SS. For many years I have been a member of the forum that caters to these vehicles. The guys on there are constantly pulled over when they have been doing no visible highway traffic act infraction. They all admit they know it is because in many of the larger crime-ridden US cities a lot of the dealers drive Impalas. It has been many years apparently that the "boys" drive the big Caddies, Impalas, Roadmasters etc.

I am not saying you are wrong Ray. I am saying I certainly have a different opinion on this than you!

You and I have another area where I think you are wrong. I think it's totally wrong that you stole that Caddy!!!

Maybe Ray's "stolen Caddy"  should be reported   lol    that would be fun to see.

Let's just put it this way, he said that "the reason he pulled me over was because of tinted windows", and the conversation that followed made it clear that he wanted to see in my trunk. I had let him know where I was going and the purpose of the trip. (Going from Alberta to Kenora Ontario to go fishing) His response was that there are plenty of lakes in Alberta! NOT !!! Anyhow, I offered to let him search the car, hoping he might leave the window tint issue alone since I had nothing to hide. One officer kept me at the front of the car while the other tore out my trunk liner and rifled through my suitcase and fishing gear.

As for procedures and follow up..... I'm sure they just went on looking for more black cars with tinted windows!

I had the same issue with the Malibu I built 15 years ago. Low black car, black windows and a pair of Supertrapp "mufflers". I would get pulled over at least twice a week.

And to add to this, I have no problem with LEO's doing random stops. As a matter of fact, I think it's a good idea. My hangup is when an officer responds with something like "there's plenty of lakes in Alberta" when presented with the idea of someone going on vacation to fish in Ontario. That is very unprofessional for a police officer. I think he was bitter he hadn't caught a criminal.

Oh, and I see they were in a Ford. Maybe they were upset that when you were asked "Do you know why we pulled you over" you responded with "because I let you!".

Did you know that tinting of the driver and passenger windows is a ticketable offence from the RCMP. They  can get you to remove it as well.

It must vary by province. We are allowed tint on those windows here, but it is not allowed as dark as the rear doors and back glass can be.

Carl your right. If the tint is dark enough that the driver is not visable. I forget the exact tint shade to the front windows, but alot lighter than that Malibu  in the thread.

i did get pulled over one morning (around 4:30) on my way to work taking the 401, driving the chick magnet (beat off multicoloured honda civic). now this car comes up my rear then slows down behind me, maybe i should have clued in but i wasn't finished my double double yet. so i'm watching my mirror to see what this clown is up too. i always drive 110 down the 401 because its economical and i never have to go around anyone, they all go around me. well the cherries come on and i pull over. now i should let you know i'm wearing my military uniform and i have short hair, not what you would expect in the chick magnet. the office asked if i know why i get pulled over, no clue on my part. he then informs me i was weaving. i reply i was watching my mirrior and was trying to figure who the ass was tailgating me. he let me go.

We did tint many years at our dealership. I think in Manitoba it is 50% on the front doors but don't quote me on that.
