These days people miraculously "find" the matching numbers motor pretty frequently... Then that car has good value once that happens.

You would spend way more than it's worth in today's market  to restore it. Further ahead to buy one in better shape not needing everything.

That may be but for someone looking to get into one and not spend it all right away, this is the way. Lots of guys want to pay as they go and have the project fun.

I have never bought a finished car either.

I understand that logic Carl. I've done it more than once, and it was never as much fun as I thought it would be. On this one my thoughts are; why start with  a rusty car in the internet age? Ontario cars that have been neglected and not oil sprayed when fairly  new are always a constant struggle to eliminate rust. I keep saying it, but it's true; Western & southern guys are so lucky they dont have the deep penetrated rust we get on our eastern cars. It's hard to get the "solid feel" back in a rust repaired car without costing you triple what it does to start with a good non-rusty one. That has been my experience in the past. There are so many available with a mouse click it hardly seems worth it.

Agreed. There are some guys who never would be part of this fun hobby though if they had to buy a rust free/low rust car. The problem is, the first project car is a rusty one and then they get turned off thinking old cars are all like that. We know that's not true but the newbies don't understand that.

I remember my first exposure to a southern car. It was a 69 Dodge Coronet that had been brought up from Texas. I bought it and couldn't believe an (at the time) 18 year old car could have original paint and sheet metal! The exhaust was even original. Nothing like the sound a rust free car original makes when you close the doors!

maybe the glove box door came from a Judge and the rest of the car isn't ? better get some documentation before starting on this one

yes, my favorite find is a 67 SD396 beaumont-can't seem to get my deepwater blue one out of my system-I tried to buy this red/red 67 SD for 10 years-when I finally got it home I thought man when will this ever get done ? might as well buy a good one for the cost-and a good one is hard to find but it'll come-probably faster than I could get this one the way I want it-I've restored-I have means/ability and it still it went down the road

I've bought turn key too, but they have went up the road just as fast when they are not "exactly" what you want.

Best case would be do it yourself but start with a good example.

Ken is correct  In this day and age, you can score a rust free body, and then do the rest yourself ..or buy a driver    I can;t wait to see B-J this year.. Ibet there will be hundreds of under 20g car.
