A couple of ads from Sinclair Pontiac Buick London Ont 1969

I found myself in downtown London today so I siezed the opportunity and stopped into the main branch of the public library. I scanned a few newspapers on microfiche from 1969 and copied these two. I only had about 15 minutes or I would have stayed for hours. Lots of great cars for sale in the classifieds!

I don't think you'll be able to read the details on these cars. The one that got my attention is the bottom left demonstrator. It reads:

1969 Pontiac Safari Estate Wagon. This three seat model is finished in Mayfair Maize with simulated wood grain side panelling and antique saddle vinyl interior. Features 427 cu. in 335 HP Asto-jet V8 engine, Turbo-Hyrdamatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows and 6 way power seat, air conditioning, tinted glass, AM-FM radio, tilted steering, automatic level control, roof luggage control and many other optional extras. Save now and plan to take your holidays in this one! $5266

What a cool wagon that would have been!

The other isn't clear but that's a Beaumont in the photo:

If you guys ever get a chance, pop into your local public library and check out the old newspapers on microfiche. The machines can print what you are viewing (it cost me only 10 cents per copy). You never know what you'll find .

That 69 safari would have been awesome - very loaded for a Canadian car.  I'm guessing the owner or sales manager would have driven that car.  Wonder if it is still around?  Need to find a way to get VIN numbers some how....

I saw one private ad for a 1968 Biscayne, "427 stick". I wonder where it is!

I was actually trying to find the Sinclair I saw about 15 years ago when I was cruising the microfiche. It was for company demonstrator Strato Chiefs. My dad's was a demonstrator and I bet that's the ad that led him to buy his! No dice finding it this time. I'll go back on a day off when I have more time.

I used to have the Sinclair boys on my hockey team back when I was a kid. One of my best friends was Jim Baily, his Dad and Uncle owned London Motor Products.

Jim's Dad always had a different car every week. I remember going over to his house one day and there was a really cool white Firebird in the driveway, lots of spoilers and scoops, said "Trans Am" on it. Yes it was a '69, brand new - his uncle had one too.

One of the guys in our local "Alberta Iron Indians" club, his grandfather sold cars at "Enerson's" in Lethbridge AB.  So our guy rounded up a bunch of photo's from his youth, queried his cousins for the same, and put together a powerpoint presentation for one of our meetings of all the Pontiac's that his extended family had.  Cool shots from the 50's - 70's with all the cars, women in cat-eye glasses, fur coats, kids with long hair, etc.
