Hurst Shifters

Does anyone have knowledge of Hurst shifters to be installed on a Muncie in a 67 console equipped B-body car?
My research over the past 24 hours has been inconclusive.
The competition plus shifters are still available.
I have not found a 1967 Impala application new.
1967 Chevelle is listed.
Does anyone have one that I could try before spending big bucks?
I am really unhappy with the reproduction standard Muncie shifter.
The original 100,000+ mile unit will work, but is real sloppy.

Rick

I know the experts, will disagree with me, BUT last year I had a new Hurst shifter  391-7308.... It was for 63-64  It fit my Muncie and sat nice in car..                I knew I had to change the shifter handle for a bench seat one..                              I sold that shifter!!!  Hurst , in my cataloque lists a 391-2747 for 65-67...              On e-bay, there is a vendor listing a Hurst shifter "complete" with a Muncie original stick for buckets for 399.00. This, I believe will fit your 67   I am going to buy one later, If I don,t sell car to Carl 3 confuse

rick, the '65-'70 b body hurst shifters are long discontinued.
i have a chevelle comp plus shifter in my belair, but i'm also using a chevelle/monte carlo 4spd crossmember. (bolts right in like it belongs there)
the hurst b body shifter mounting bracket moves the shifter a bit higher (1/2-3/4"?)so the rods will clear the original cross member.
the hurst mounting bracket #4205 comes up on ebay once in awhile.
i have a chevelle shifter and a 4205 brkt to install in a '69 impala, will see how it all works out this summer.

I looked at this. Don't understand why it would not include 1967.
When I checked the Parts Place on line it showed nothing for 1967 Impala.
My fear is that it won't work with the console.

I make lots of mistakes, but would prefer not to order the  wrong one and have this cost $1,000.+ rather than $500.+

If someone would be prepared to lend (rent) me one to try, it would be appreciated. I've never held one of these in my hands, so I'm not sure of the issues: Impala vs Chevelle , 66 vs 67.
It must be the length of the rods and the height of the shifter in the hump.

Knowledgebase Question:

I want to install a Hurst shifter in my car. The shifter 391-2747, and linkage 373-3643 is no longer available? Is there any Hurst shifter I can install in this console equiped car? Thanks John

Solution:

Sorry but we do not offer another shifter that will fit that application. The shifter and installation kit was discontinued about 7 years ago and we have not offered anything since.

From a place in Illinois.

I called and talked to them. They cant give me the Hurst part #s.

I know 1966 Muncie is the same as 1967

I know 1966 Console is the same (interchangeable) with 1967

They will not confirm that this is useable for 1967.

If I order it, I own it, no guarantees.  Do I take a chance?

I used Hurst 391-7308 and 373-3163 for 63-63 and it fit fine in my 66   The stick is not curved enough, but I was going to use a Muncie stick anyway..(modify it)  The kit is available......66 and 67 are same floorpan?

I ordered this kit. It arrived with all of the parts, but no instructions.
Given that instructions are only to be used if all else fails, I started with a mock up on the bench using my old tranny.
Using the limited gray matter I have available, I was able to get 2 of the shifter rods to work at 1 time. with the multiple combinations I tried, I could not get the 3rd rod to work.
Sunday night I found a set of Hurst instructions for some other application and on Monday was able to get everything working on the bench.
Today I got the old shifter out and the new one bolted to the tranny in the car.
Here is where the oops appeared. The shifter arms interfere with Carl2's favorite item, the notorious "CROSS" member.

To be continued............

Doesn't he (Carl 2) have a special way of bending them? I just can't remember if it was successful or not. He'll be the guy to talk to.

Rick,I'll be more than willing to come and take a look at your problem.I'll bring what I have for 4-speed parts and we can go from there. If i'm right, you might need a different cross member.I'll take a pic of mine.My car was an original 6 w/a 3 on the tree.My big block swap went ok and the only diff. is that I have a ST-10(which is identical to a Muncie) w/a Hurst shifter and handle.I do have several different mounting plates for the shifter to the tranny.Let me know.

It seems to me, the special bending technique resulted in large quantities of steel, concrete, grease and saran wrap being couriered across the country.

Yes and after a "truckload of kindness" biggrinsent across country, Carl2 of 3  was too chicken to tell, that the old B-body cross member, was going to have to be "mangled" again to fit...        69Bel Air, the "chevy guy" told me to get a Beaumont? 4 speed or auto cross member  (At the time he wasn't sure about automatic one)   I found many cross members in Brucefield (5 miles from me)  Auto & 4 speed are the same width, as B-body, and 4 speed had OE Muncie bracket making it $$$  I got a nice Southern(auto) one and installed it (I have exhaust on,so it was a job).....        I added new rear mount, and the Beaumont member works" mint"   over a inch of clearance "under" shifter  and looks "stock"  Had to drill hole, for bracket on right, Holding emergency cable....    I am sorry I did not report this before hmm   So the shifter is for Chevelle/Nova/ earlier Impala, and boot is 68-72 Nova....

Looks great Carl.
Maybe have 67 Beaumont crossmember found. Should know before noon tomorrow.
Tomorrow @ 7:30 am, should have modified B body crossmember finished.
Will probably try to put one of them in at noon tomorrow.
Have rebelrousers offer of help.

It's great to have the wealth of knowledge and help that this site brings to us.

I have to say thanks again to Todd for making this possible.

Carl3 (AKA Rick)
