Is this good fuel mileage?

Yesterday I made a trip from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Toronto, late morning, arriving home near 1:00 pm.  I didn't check time but it should be 1 1/2 hours or less. I set my on board computer as I left the hotel.

My average speed for the trip was 106.8 km/h and fuel was comsumed at 9.1 litres/100 km.

That is about 67 MPH and 26.8 mpg according to my on board computer.

Just curious, would this be considered good fuel economy ?

In a full size car anything over 25mpg is what I would consider to be good mileage.

Took the Malibu for its first 100 mile plus trip to Pretoria and back.
Total distance traveled 170 miles = 274 Km; Fuel used 29.07 liters.
Consumption 22 MPG = 9.448 KM/L.biggrin
= 10.58 L/100Km
Distance back was 137Km in 1Hr and 20 Minutes = 103 KmH avg.
Speed was between 55 and 70 MpH on the freewayevileye
with one section of roadworks about two miles long (Going There)
where the traffic virtually came to a standstill!  Not too bad if I may say so!aww

The Malibu has a 250CID motor.

Believe it or not!!! The Malibu had its first wheelie today
when I had to make a quick right turn at an intersection in Pretoria!!!!spin.gif

Compares Km/L with your numbers.  MpG UK or US? Mine works out 22 MpG.

It was in my Deville, but still a high HP V8 in a large car, that's very good I think.

Johann, we use imperical (UK) gallons here in Canada.

Ray, I would still do the fill up and then divide the mileage by the amt of fuel used, I find those onboard computer mileage read-outs to be notoriously inaccurate, and always favouring higher fuel economy.  My actual fuel economy has never once achieved that displayed on the digital read out.

Maybe so Hillar but even at a ball park figure of -5% it's still 25 mpg. It was a good ride in, never touched the brakes until the Rogers Centre and before I left I pumped 40 psi into the tires. I don't think I could do much better than that at a touch or two under 70 mph for the average speed. It was just a perfect day for a Sunday drive.

 Morning Ray and Astro Jet,
I used the above method and based on UK Gallons achieved 26.58 MPG. Your de Ville has newer technology and at avg 106 KMH should achieve above 22 MPG.

With The Malibu the consumption was achieved with a brilliantly re-built MonoJet and a Fuel pressure relief system that I made and installed.

Hi Johann, can you help me understand the calculation you made. I did not keep track of distance travelled or fuel use dso how did you arrive at the result? I merely relied on the data provided by the on board computer.

Hullo Ray, The above figure was not calculated but guestimated based on past experience!!!
