Picture reminds me of a pickup I saw here at the boat launch a few years ago when we were coming in off the lake. The guy had forgotten to put on his ebrake and leave it in gear. The water was about a foot lower but everything was floating out of his box and it was at the level of his seat. He was looking for someone to give him a tow. Also not a good day for him. Life goes on. Carl I was thinking in the future you could probably give seminars on flood preperation and survival, I know you'd be the first guy I'd ask advice from. Good luck and hang in there.
Thanks for the kind words Jerel. Funny, after you mentioned that my nephew and I were talking about that. It would actually be fun to educate people on flood prep. I can not take full credit for all ideas. My neighbour has taken it even one step further by writing out an actual emergency plan for floods. He does this to have something to present to the authorities in the event they would try to evacuate him. I have all my notes to do it but have not actually written it out yet.
Life is good today! No, the water has not really gone away much. It is a beautiful warm calm day though. Also, now I have the whole family here including my nephew who came to visit. It feels great! When everyone is gone tomorrow evening it's going to be a sad time....

Another gorgeous day. I took the kids and actually did a very small amount of sightseeing, something I am pretty opposed to in a flood because of the hazards. I stuck to open fields that I knew for certain had 5 feet of water on them and that I knew were not hiding any hazards.
This morning I had to (sadly) take my nephew, 67SD396 out to his car so he could be home to Alberta tonight. It absolutely made my week having him here. What a blessing when a week ago I was expecting to spend pretty much Monday to Friday alone. The kids loved having him when they came in on the weekend too. Yesterday they were out having sling shot practice!
We can now drive (barely) within 1 1/2 miles of home. I bottomed the Roadmaster going through one of the washouts tonight taking them out, so maybe that was a bit premature trying it out. It feels better at least knocking off 1/2 my boating distance anyway.
We are now down about 20" in the last 17 days. Keep reminding me that the turtle did finally win the race.........
I still hold to my prediction from weeks ago that May 12th will be the day the road is open. It still has about 2 feet on it where it runs past the end of our driveway.

Now THATS lakefront property !!! We would pay big bucks for that out here in the bald prairie !! You'll cherish that picture especially in a few years when you take it in the same spot & your daughter is all grown up and you have nice green fields in the background !
Carl, I haven't been around for a few weeks, been kinda busy with work and stuff. went through your pics and info on the river and am utterly amazed as what i saw. no wonder your nephews jaw had dropped! WOW! I am glad prayers are being answered and that you and yours are being kept safe! keep up your good spirits. Siemen

My nephew is fine now! By the time he went out this morning after 5 nights here he was a flood "veteran"!!!

Exactly 3 weeks ago right now I boated out my family. This has been one of the longest 3 week periods in my life.
Today I went back to work for 5 1/2 hours, the first time in those 3 weeks. That was as much as I dared to leave the house unattended. Of course, all was well when I returned home but I just have no guarantees.
Could someone start a "Canadian Poncho Joke Thread" or something? I could sure use that about now.

Boy, not sure what the neighbour 1/2 mile south is up to. As you can imagine the sound carries real well right now, just like at the lake (well, duh............!!!) and I've heard a good 10 shotgun blasts in the last 5 minutes. South wind so I guess I'll know shortly if it's a skunk!
I phoned over but his wife hadn't been outside yet to see what it was. It's not dark yet, I'm tempted to hop in the boat and go over. I HATE being left out of the action if he's shooting!!!

Yesterday it was such a horrible evening I had to do something. Today I worked a good part of the day at my regular job. It means leaving our home unattended slightly more than I feel comfortable with but it all seems to be working fine and the pump is running a bit less frequently. I just had to get a little more "normal" in my life so I decided to work.
I also talked my wife into coming home a bit earlier than she had planned. She has been suffering a lot (physically) throughout this whole ordeal. She is run down and can't get proper sleeps so I did my best to talk her into coming home and talked the kids into it as well. I will be boating us all out each day to go to work and back in after school.
I took a picture today. I want to see if anyone notices anything in this picture.....

Still looks like lots of water to me.... Is that the road or rail tracks behind the trees? Is that grass along the side of trees?
