One owner "black beauty" with mother of pearl interior in excellent condition, no dents or scratches - just a good paint job needed to bring this baby back to like new condition. Original (rebuilt) 8 cyl  283 cu inch engine with auto power-glide transmission. Bucket seats with counsel shift and white power top. This is a solid, straight vehicle that has been pampered by original owner and is a pleasure to drive. As usual, we hate the Best Offer ads! Nice looking ride though. Were those No Smoking emblems on the glove box door optional?

The price in the ad text says $10,000 or best offer.

Yes - is $10,000 the price or best offer the price? Is there a deadline on best offer price? Is there a process for best offers? It's just a bad way to advertise a car imo.

I see what you mean.  To me, unless a price says "firm" the "best offer" part is implied.

$X or best offer implies the seller will sell for $X right now or would like to get as close to $X as possible, sort of like a dutch auction in reverse.  He would like to $X but will sell it for the highest offer which closest to that.  So if you offer this guy $9500, you have a pretty good chance of getting it soon, if you offer $8,000 you will be left hanging with a "I'll get back to you" and you may never hear from him again.  Actually a pretty simple concept, I use it all the time when selling things.  It's like using a Buy It Now option on epay, or you can sit back and try and negotiate a lower price, but you take your chances as to whether you will get it and someone else makes a better offer than you in the interim.  This is how informal auctions were run before epay was invented!

BTW, I looked at the clone of this car in Richmond, B.C. about 10 years ago - only it had a 396!  It was the same deal, $X or best offer.  I made my best offer, I didn't hear back from him, so obviously my best offer wasn't good enough, <shrug>, you move on.

As MC indicated, it's implied that a price is generally negotiable but advertisng in big letters Best Offer is a fishing trip to me.

What you put in the ad, whether a price alone, a price or best offer, or a price - firm, depends largely upon who your audience is.  Here, I would hope people would understand those terms and not bother you otherwise, however, I have placed all kinds of ads for things in various forms of media  with a "firm price" and STILL had a people calling me with lowball offers.  With best offer, I usually give it a couple of weeks to see if there is anyone out there who has been looking for and is really desperate for that item and willing to jump at the price just to lock it up.  If not, I start to consider offers.

Notice the body side moulding. It's not correct for a Custom Sport, Also the patch on the drivers door, the missing lower trim and chrome cladding. IMO, it's a long way from a $10G car.

Well...I had the twin to this car - a 66' Custom Sport vert' in black - that was in much rougher shape and it sold for $6K about 5 years ago.  I think that car is a 10K car.
