Vintage Cujo

Anyone see Cujo come in in the last minute of the game for an ejected Gerber, stone the heavy artilery from Washington in O/T and win the game in the Shootout?

Nice to see - Just awesome. CUUUUUUUUUUUJO !

Played for Gretzky in Phoenix, retired then came back to play in Spengler Cup last year winning Gold. Calgary picked him up for playoffs then contract ended. Leafs picked him up in the summer. He'll retire again after this season.

I went nuts when they tied it up 2 2 and Gerber got ejected. I minute to go in Game and he stops 12 shots in total to win it. And young Hamilton 2 for 2 in the shoot out.

Not being contrary but I said to my son how old is tha guy Hamilton, he looked him up on his lap top.....31 ! He's played only 6 years in the pros, was a NCAA player until he was about 25,  played pro in Europe and Russia then hooked up with AHL teams and Hurricanes. Leafs got him as free agent from Carolina

Any way it was an exciting finish on a BS call by the ref. I was glad Cujo stopped Ovechkin!!

Yours truly was at the game last night in golds behind Theodore in periods 1 and 3 so I saw Hamilton's game winning goal plus Ovechekin's goal during regulation which was a work of art.

The game was a pretty sleepy affair until the middle of the third period when they honoured one of troops home from Afghanistan.  When they announced his name, the whole arena stood up and gave him a standing ovation.  I don't know if they catch this on the TV telecasts but this is a feature called "Luke's Troops".  Since mid February, Leaf rookie Luke Schenn has been sponsoring a soldier home from Afghanistan attending each Leaf home game.  What a classy move from a kid that is only 19 years old.  He is demonstrating maturity, compassion and wisdom way beyond his years and this bodes well for his future with the Leafs.  I think he will be captain one day.  That standing O seemed to energize the crowd and the Leafs and there was more action in the last 10 minutes than there had been in the previous 50!

Ray, why did Marty get tossed?  We couldn't see exactly what happened since it was at the other end.

In any event, Cujo came in and stood on his head, it was like 1999 all over again!  The building went from quiet to deafening, every save brought out the CUUUJO chant.  And what poetic justice that he stopped Ovechekin on the game deciding shot in the shoot-out, the place just went bananas!  I said to my partner right away that even though he only played 6 minutes plus the shoot-out, Cujo was going to be the first star.  In reality, Marty played great the whole game as well and they actually should have shared the first star between them.  After the game my partner ran into the soldier and gave him a business card from our bar, The Pilot Tavern.  Needless to say, drinks are on the house if he can ever stop by!

I was also there for the March 14 victory over Calgary, 14 goals, 3 great fights, the most entertaining game I have been to in at least 3 years.  Plus Luke's Troops featured 3 soldiers that night, and there was about a 3 minute standing ovation.  Not quite like being on the Highway of Heroes, but just as emotional and makes you feel just as proud!

This was my last Leaf game of this season, so it was nice to go out with two such emotional, entertaining games.  I really think the Luke's Troops ceremony has a lot to do with getting the Leafs and the crowd going.

Are those the same seats I've been in with you?

I was out at the East York Civic Centre participating in the Agnes Macphail award ceremony and I just walked in the door and Ryan is yelling Dad hurry up and get in here.

So I see the replays one after the other on the play where the Washington player pitch forks Marty and drives him and the puck into the net. I say that but at no time can you actually see the puck. So we all see Marty fire the puck at the referee and generally go nuts and I guess he makes contact with the official so he gets the GM.

They show a close up of Wilson on the bench and he is firing the choice words at the officials and the rest of the boys were getting all fired up on the bench too. It was great to see how much of a team they have become in the past few weeks.

We all know the ending, it was great! Good for Curtis, he played that knowing it is probably his last game as a Leaf, if you could have seen his face as we did on TV you would have known no one was going to beat him. As they say, he was in the Zone!

The atmosphere at the ACC is good leading up to the game but it gets to be low energy pretty fast. It's the Platinum Crowd. Good they have Luke's Troops to fire people up.
