CLICK HERE to see the auction.

My car is on the left, the GTO auction car on the right, I just stitched two photos together. Can't imagine getting $10,000.

I know you were Carl but these cars still aren't worth that much. If I could get $10,000 US that would mean a 400% profit for me on my inital cost.

I think this is related.. Why are the appraisals, so much higher, than the actual market value?..      I was at London car show, and spoke to "a" insurance company about getting 8-10G insurance on my Chief, and 10g on the little car..               They wanted  apprasials, claiming my descriptions, indicated, cars were worth much(double) more lol   They finally admitted , they have a program, that allows me to send pictures, and descriptions, and their appraiser would approve my request for amount of insurance I wanted...   You are realistic in your thoughts of your car real value... Very often appraisers want to see any bills you may have for add ons and extra work done. An appraisal for insurance purposes is usually intended to cover your investment against loss so the value you settle on can very often be greater than the actual realized priced in a fair market transaction.  I think it is safe to say that Fair Market Value and Appraised Value are two completely different things both determined in completely different ways.

Thank you   Its the first time someone gave me the answer, I was lookng for... so for example, my little car is worth 10-12g if it was for sale, but it would cost me closer to 20g, to replace its rust free body with all its added features... Now I see why owners get confused, and ask the appraised value, when trying to sell their cars..  Makes sense  now     thanks C2

Pedigree, it is a real GTO afterwards, drivetrain, Pontiac 400, posi rear end, console, good colour combo, blue over white (no offence Ray!, but put your car back to silver!)  He's got to get the correct springs in it all around though...bleh

Exactly.  As was discussed in another thread, that is why you have Endorsement 19A on collector car policies, it covers your investment in the car.  If you have $20K in the car or that is what it would cost you to reproduce it, that is the amount you pay premiums on, it's like an annuity.  Fair market value, that is what most of us have on our daily drivers.  If your 5 year old Cavalier gets written off, they pay what a five year old Cavalier similar to yours can be purchased for at that date.  Doesn't matter if the week before you had just put a brand new engine, tranny, tires, battery, etc., in it; that is just considered "regular maintenance" and you get no credit for that.

I like how it looks with the stance and those American Racing Wheels set it off nicely.

Hillar I never take offense from you, I agree most of the time, I just make posts to generate conversation most of the time.

In this case Pedigree is two door emblems, a grille emblem and 3 decals on the body and 50 cubes. I like the car except for his wild rear end. If one was inclined to do so I'd have a pretty easy"cloning".

True, I'd be interested though if anyone has ever directly compared a Chevy 400 small block against a Pontiac 400 for performance, I don't recall ever seeing too many road tests of the bowtie 400.  50 cubes though is still 50 cubes. wink

Those rear springs are hideous.  I doubt they are even for an A body.  Probably something he found cheap at a swap meet and threw them on.  Rear springs can be swapped out in an hour, we all know what is involved in front springs which is why most people never bother doing them, even though they are probably the most important ones to replace.

I don't think the 400 sbc was really ever sold as a performance engine. It was used to push around big sedans and wagons, cars that needed lots of torque to get them going plus pull 7,000 ib trailers. The Chevy Performance guide does detail a build up of the 400 sbc.

As the old adage says "theres no replacement for cubic inches" !

Here are some specs I found:

73 Pontiac GTO 400 4bbl dual exhausts - 230 HP @4400, 325 ft lb @3200

70 Chevy 400 2bbl single exhaust - 265 HP / 400 ft lbs
