i dont get it!!??

okay, soo, my carb is not squirting fuel. (2-barrel)  If i pour some gas in the carb it starts and i can rev it no problem. I cant start it without putting fuel down the carb. Where the plunger is, is there supposed to be a little metal ball in there? Would the two fuel mixture screws have anything to do with it? Float? I dont get it (like usual!!)

Give the main body a couple of good raps with the handle of a screwdriver. Float might be stuck.

Trevor, so the bowl is full of fuel? If it is, the most likely event is that the accelerator pump is dried out and instead of forcing fuel through the body and out the horn, it is bypassing the pump and the pump wall. Has the carb been sitting over the winter or longer? It is obviously getting fuel if the engine stays running after you start it unless the passages have plugged from the checkball to the horn.
If you can, gently flare out the pump rubber, make sure there is lots of fuel in the bowl and manually push the plunger down in it's bore. You should, all things being equal, get fuel spray.

i rebuilt the carb (which is my first problem!!) and put a new plunger in. Now i wonder if the plunger isnt seated properly like your saying. There is fuel in the bowl. I also cant remember if there is supposed to be a little ball where the plunger is or not and should it be steel or copper?

Its been a long time since I did a two barrel but I think the older rochester 2gc carb
did not, but had one in the discharge tube under the venturi cluster assy. The newer ones had under the plunger inlet tube and discharge tube. Here is a good read . Its the Rochester manual.
