69 427 Impala SS ragtop London Ont

I have seen this car. It is very, very nice! This fellow has owned the car a long time. I'm surprised he is selling in this market.

I'm not sure if it is Canadian or not. The car is very straight.

Nice car but if an original 427 car this is a 427 Impala SS...not to be confused w/ the SS427 cars..

Actually, by 1969, the only SS B-body left was the SS427. No other B-body SS was available in the final year.

So, if real, this car is a SS427, not just an Impala Super Sport with a 427 in it.

I know.....I know....people who don't know the story of the SS427 Chevys (1967-69) will think we're crazy. rofl.gif

i guess it was poor '69 SS427 sales killed the idea of a '70 SS454 b-body.

That's right, Dave. By the late 60's, all the attention had moved to the mid-size and pony car performance models. Big cubes......smaller weight. Power-to-weight, baby!!!

The full-size cars went back to serving as primary family transportation.

Yes the only 69 SS was a 427 car but SS427 cars were 67 & 68 only so a 69 would be a 427 Impala SS, not an SS427..

 Hi Pete,

Given that the Z-03 (super sport) option was unavailable after 1968, and all the 1969 cars (like the one in this thread) were Z-24 optioned cars, they are therefore all true SS427. The Z-24 covered three years only (67-69) and is definitely not a Super Sport. In 1967 and 1968, the Z-24 could be "added" to the Z-03 cars, but there was no Z-03 super sport option available in 1969.

Think of it this way. Z-03 for the "trim" package like Super Sport badging, bucket seats, etc. (even on 6 cylinder cars). Z-24 for the "performance" package like the big engine and suspension goodies, etc. And, like I said, in '67 and '68 you could add both on the same car...............but not in '69. 1969 was SS427 (Z-24) only.

Now, question for you Poncho experts, if this was a 69 Pontiac 427 convertible same shape what would it be worth ?

Bob...

Thanks for the clarification and yes, looking at it the Z24 option way you're absolutely correct!.
Even though one of the 427's was mandatory to get an SS in '69, I've always thought of them more as an SS w/ a 427 since they just had SS badges and 427 emblems separate and no SS427 badging or special hoods/louvres etc like the 67/68 SS427 cars had..

Thanks!

I would say that 95% of the people who can truly appreciate what the Pontiac version would/should be worth are on this site. Well how much do you think anyone on here would pay for such a car? Well, I probably won't make any friends on here for saying this but being brutually honest, I would say $25K, maybe $30K tops. The market is small and Canadians generally can't or won't pay what Americans would pay, and dat's the facts, Jack!

There is a subtle, but definite difference in the two possibilities.

As said earlier, the SS427 (67, 68, 69) was a "performance package", whereas the regular Super Sports and equivalent CP 2+2 cars were "trim packages" that you could add performance options to, if so inclined. That alone places the SS427 in a different category.

I've long argued that selling Super Sports and 2+2's with low horsepower V8's (not to mention 6 cylinders) was the wrong move, and served to degrade the image of what should have remained special, exclusive models. But, like in all things, short term gains were all that appeared to matter.

Imagine if Super Sports and CP 2+2's had only been available with the top two engine options of the day, and had to include suspension, tire and exhaust upgrades..........what would Super Sports or 2+2's be worth these days in that case? A lot more than they are now.

JMHO. wink

Rare or not

Cherry or not

their worth what one will pay

in this market and in yesterday's strong market although this sure looks like a great car that couldn't be shopped for this restoration at this price will likely be on the market a long while-everything seems to be hit and miss these days-but for sure $50k is getting tougher to sell-really mainstream stuff is showing up at that price or less-the seller needs a buyer that was looking for this car/model/options only.

THESE ARE RARE CARS, EVEN MORE SO WITH THE ORIGINAL ENGINES STILL INTACT. I HAD A '69 CUSTOM COUPE PROJECT THAT I HAD TO SELL DUE TO DIVORCE. STILL MAKES ME SAD THINKING ABOUT IT.no (SELLING THE CAR...NOT THE DIVORCE)
