Inside the block - for your viewing pleasure


Decided to put on new water pump along with the new radiator (and of course new hoses, clamps, and thermostat), and here's what the inside of the block looks like with no.1 clinder up front and personal smile.gif:

Not too bad, I think. What do you think?

I could easily run mechanics wire full length down the water jacket to the end of the block, no blockage, no sludge on wire when I pulled it back out. Top of the head where the temp sender is looked good also.

Just to be sure I am going to reverse flush and also put a piece of 3/4" i.d. clear plastic hose onver the temp sending unit fitting (had to heat it up just a bit to fit), we'll see what comes out.

For 50+ years of use, I don't think the amount of rust ans scale is all that bad?

Actually here's a picture of MY insides:

Right carotid artery, taken with MRI, before my surgery ... you see the place in the middle on the left just below the Y where it is all dark? The white parts are nice clear artery - no white, no passageway for the blood ...

Now fixed. Took a bit more than what it'll take to clean up the inside of my block smile.gif

Glad your OK Dave, I had heart problems over a year ago also. One of the arteries that feed my heart was 100% blocked and my heart was failing. I was lucky and a angioplasty with two metel  stents opened it up.

Sorry to hear about your heart Ian, glad you are OK and that the angioplasty did the job. Those stents are a good thing, make sure that ol' artery keeps open! Better than open heart surgery for sure!

Wow...happy you fellas are both Ok!.

I don't think I'd be too worried about cleaning the inside of that # 1 cooling area as you're not going to be able to get at anything else anyway and could cause problems or knock a crud piece into the bottom that could block something?.

Looking at the pic reminds me of why I always avoided the straight six cars when fixing insurance write-offs as the cars w/ front hits would often poke the stem of the waterpump into the cyl...the V8's always survived fine..
