finding a frame for 66


does anyone know if a 66/67 four door have a boxed in frame equal to a convertable frame.

are you talking about an A-body Beaumont, or a B-body Parisienne, etc?

no, but I can tell you theres a guy here in St Catharines parting a 66 chevelle convertible, the frame has been restored-sandblasted/painted/new bushings/ball joints/springs etc.. plus disc brakes added ready to roll under a car @ $2500 (905) 327-0072 his name is John  if thats not right try 905 327 0027

I could be wrong but didn't '68Post' Barry from down East list an A-Body boxed roller chassis a few weeks back?.
If it was him, I think it may've been a 68-72 style but worth checking?.

And not that they're easier to find than a convertible frame but keep in mind that Olds 442 & Buick GS Coupes had the boxed ragtop style frames too..

No, I bought a convertible new (Chevelle but same frame as Beumont) and the convertibles were the only ones that had the stronger frame. GM only spent money to make things stronger if the car really needed it and the sedans with the roof and pillars made a nice strong box, however the convertibles had no such supports so the frame had to be strong enough to not flex, hence the convertible-only stronger frame.

Actually 66 and 67 Buick GS cars definately had the boxed frames as well-same as a convertible-I have seen several over the years and the GS cars all had them from the factory hardtop,post or covertible.As for the 442 I am not sure.

Can you not buy the boxed sections repro to weld in? and make a regular frame a convert. frame? I thought i saw those once when someone was restoring a convertible...

 I think so, it would have to be done on a jig of course. I've seen guys just box a hardtop frame-doesn't look correct but does the job, Leo has at least two good convertible frames though likely cheaper than buying side rails let alone welding them in.
