This is a proud Papa post. My youngest Madelyn just turned 17. She took her driver training at Leaside High School here in Toronto which is essential for a decent insurance rate, we practiced with our Suburban for two weeks while at our cottage. Today was her test, out at the old Downsview Airbase is where they private contractor testing centre is, some old military building beside the hangers and runways. Gone for ten minutes, back to the parking lot, Hmmmm, good sign or bad. Big Smile biggrin on her face tells me.  Life is good. Wish I was 17 again!

congrats.  Did she do it in the Suburban?

I took my drivers test 2 days after I turned 16, it was -20 out and I didn't have to bother doing the hand signals as my tester didn't want to freeze to death.  I took it through the driving school I had attended, as their cars were smaller than the big 70 Parisienne.

Cool news Ray and congrats to the young lady!.

Leaside High is where my Dad went...he grew up on Parkhurst Blvd..

I just read a great Canadian DeHavilland history book that was mostly on production at the Downsview site.. I'm hooked on the Mosquitos...the world's fastest pieces of plywood!.

Thanks guys, funny about hand signals, one tester told me not permited on road test. They test every car for working signals befor they go out.

1. Did she do it in the Suburban?

Between my Suburban, Fleetwood and Deville I decided to call a local driving school and paid him $75 for his small car, Shhhhh...a Corolla.

2. Leaside High is where my Dad went...he grew up on Parkhurst Blvd.

We have a number of friends on Parkhurst. Man your dad had it easy, very close to school. I won't bother to tell you that the homes sell for a minmum of $850,000 on Parkhurst these days, lots over $1M too!

3. Downsview site

It is still pretty cool out there, transitioning to private uses and park use but still pretty big military presence out there. They have a some production facilties there still, field engineers are there too. They have a sweet old CF-5 fighter mounted there at the entrance going vertical.

my 2(daughters) took instruction through the high school. classroom instruction and driving test after school hours. the eldest passed 1st time, #2 the 2nd time, although her tester sounded like he was a real doorknob. saves a bundle on insurance.
one of these days i'll show them how to drive a 4spd.  ya, right.

Does that now mean 5 licenced drivers in the White household?  Hmm, only 4 vehicles, including the Lemans, better repossess the old Regal...biggrin

Yup, 5 of us, haven't got up enough nerve to call the insurance company yet! Madelyn went back to the cottage with strict instructions not to drive anything, the Fleetwood is there and her gear shifting aunt is there too with her Toyota.

I was going to repo the Regal for her test but left it in Markham in the end. I think I need something smaller for the girls to drive. Any Ideas? GM only please.
