67 327. Points Dwell.

I just replaced the points on my 67' 327. Will be installing a Pertronix ignitor soon.

From memory, I set the dwell to 28.

Is that close?

Mark.

I'd look into a Crane set up, instead of Pertronix, If "heard" alot of comments on failure of Pertronix units& left stuck at the side of road, unless you keep your old pts.& cond. with you. I put the Crane unit in mine yrs. ago, no problems [so far] & it has a adjustable rev. limiter built into it. Cost was comparible & saves an "over rev" not that we would do that, would we????

But you would need the superduper megabuck BBC 8200 conversion. It really would sound cool going through the traps bouncing on the chip.

You want the special version designed to cost lots of money. Only for 66 Strato Chief BBC 427 8200 rpm limit.

I used the "Breakerless SE" set up in my cars.  It utilizes a single wire from the coil to the distributor for the stock look.

The manuals usually specify 28-32 degrees.

Carl, sure looks like the one I put in, small adj. hole has plastic? screw to set rev's stock cap & rotor are used so you can't tell, I set mine for 5500rpm & usually shift it at 5000 manually if "I'm really on it"Still keep the pts. & cond. in G/box" just in case for long haul trip!!  Pete

28 - 32!

Would there be a noticable difference in performance from 28 to 31 degrees? I'm at 28.
The car seems just a little bit sluggish after the points, plugs, cap and rotor. Perhaps the timing...but I can't find my timing light, so I'll just do the audible timing setup...turn it a little at a time until she just starts to ping on mid grade.

So the Pertronix units are said to be unreliable are they? I've seen the Crane unit, and I think Summit even has a house brand unit for around the same price.

Does the dist. need to come out and apart for the Crane unit?

Dist. can stay in car, but it easyer to take it out to do it. Installation is a "breeze"  took more time to re & re dist. than to install kit!!! Everything looks stock when done, cars starts better as well.   Pete
