What's it worth?? 1974 LS4 454

I have a 74 LS4 454 BB that I would like to get rid of. It was running good when removed from my 68 Camaro 6 years ago. Its a 2 bolt block, block # 3999289. The heads are the large Oval port heads, NOT the peanut port heads. Casting # 353049.It is a great motor to build up and can easily make 550-600HP from what I'm told from engine builders. The motor is complete minus the carb and distributor. I have headers, edelbrok valve covers and edelbrok open plenum intake to go with it. Also the pulleys and brackets are all there with power steering pump. Whats it worth???? Thanks.

Well, I know that one other time the debate got heated here when we discussed engine value, but I don't care!!!

I will hazard a guess and say $1,000 - $1,200. Now I'm headed off to put on my flame suit because people are likely going to come on here and say it's a $500 core.....

My reasoning is that the supply has all but dried up for good 454's to build up, at least when I read the ads or ask around for one. Pulleys, brackets and a proper PS pump alone should be worth $125 - $150.

Also, a known good engine from someone I know has more value than a core advertised where the seller says "never ran it" or "condition unknown".

Thanks for the input Carl, thats around what I was figuring too. Can't see why anyone would wanna get excited about adding a opinion when it is asked for. Thanks again.

OK but it has to go in your wagon, and I think we will have to tub it out too.

Don't temp me that inline 3 on the tree can really get on my nerves some times. Any one got a blower and a spare hood for a 57?

I agree with Carl   maybe closer to 1500 with the 049 heads and Edelbock intake

I'd go with Carl S's higher number, 1200 for a runner is more than fair.

it's going to be set up to run the center 2 in unison, the outer will both come in at 60%.

NOPE..not effecient...but really cool at the car shows. I'm building it for my coupe...I figured that would go without saying....

In the GTA you could easily get $1,500 for it these days.  As C1 said, these things are not exactly growing on trees any more.  They are long gone from any wrecking yards around here.  The only way you are going to find one is if someone has one squirreled away in his shop, etc.

They are getting harder to find, some pop up here and there but they are out of motor homes and later trucks. $1000.00 is all I want, it's gotta go no room for it.

I had 2 '74 Corvette's both with 454's. They were really strong running engines in stock form. If it was around here in Ingersoll Ont. it would bring $1000-1400. Too bad I can't climb in or out of those things anymore as I know where there is one sitting in London needing a motor.
