4 speed automatic question?

Hey guys, The 96 S10 that I had my accident in is in my yard and I was wondering what model 4 speed trans is in it? Its a 4.3, but the only thing worth saving is the trans...LOL  The truck was pretty beat up when I bought it($200) and the insurance gave me $1250 for it and told me I could have it.
I just want to know if the 4 speed auto in it is worth the trouble of taking it out? For either my 60 poncho wagon or the 396 BelAir(probably not)
  Thanks in advance....Ken

It should be a 4L60E . This is the electric shift version of 700R4. The shift points are computer controlled. Kits may be available to adapt for your application but the 700R4 is an easier retrofit. Using the complete engine, trans, computer ,fuel pump, etc. would be an option. Just my opinion.

What he said^^^^^^^^

An older 700 is the easy way to go. However, I think there is now an affordable kit to adapt the electric shift to a carb engine. There didn't used to be anything that made sense, $$$$ wise.

My 65 Impala (everyday driver) will be getting an overdrive before it returns to the road next spring. Putting alot of miles so the powerglide is being retired.Plans are 700r4, chosen over a 200 because of mount location.
