Acadian firewall chalk mark


This is a shot of the firewall on my Acadian before I repainted it. Anyone else have shots of theirs that have the Rx below the heater motor? I know of another 65 that has a similar Rx on it. Has it ever been solved as to the meaning of it?

The some of the inspection stickers the windshield stickers were "M" (Mechanical OK from the Final Line), "P" (Paint OK from the Final Line), "B" (Body Trim OK from the Final Line), and "RT" (Roll Test OK). Anyone know the others?

I have a whole bunch in faded yellow on my firewall, similar to the '64 409 CS Ray went to see ... I'll check them out tomorrow.

aircon.JPGHere's a chalk mark from inside the passenger fender of my 66 Grande Parisienne.  Fairly unusual I think. (1 of 23 according to GM Canada) I don't plan to paint over it if I can help it.  My Gimli car with the AC parts didn't have it.  It must have been a note to the assembly line of some kind either telling them to install AC or letting them know AC was installed (although that would be kind of obvious.)

On my car there is a sideways "R", then written over top of it is "xPRB" or "xPR8" (like the 409 car), then beside that is "307-1-8", then below that is "7447" (which denotes a 2 dr. sports coupe).
When I get the car painted, I will replicate the markings.

A neat trick is to put a clear piece of plastic (like overhead machine acetate or even Saran wrap) and place it over your markings. Trace them using a sharpie and then you'll have an actual size "copy" to use as a guide after you've painted over the originals.

Hmm, this gives me an idea. I never had planned to put the mark back on (I repainted my firewall) but I still have time before the 327 gets plunked in there.....

I have restored several Acadians with the RX firewall marking, from 1963-1966. My research came back as {heater outlet seals in place} ?? Also for your info most power brake models had an x or a circle above the boaster.

Shoot, I never knew that. I never looked before I painted it. My car is manual power steering and brakes now but it was built with power for both and the purchaser had them remove both before she took delivery as documented on the paperwork she gave me.

By any chance do you have a photo of one? I know my car was power brakes, and I have a pretty good firewall shot before paint but no sign of it. I'd like to see what to look for.

Does anyone have experience with what to use to put the firewall markings on? I have no idea what to use if I decide to replicate the Rx on mine.

The RX is usually black from the factory, the circle or X by the brake booster is also black. In many cases there is a scribble {possible name} and an OK in center of firewall behind distributor on V8 or valve cover on a 6. These marks are usually black but sometimes a yellow-orange color. Quick tip- Put your markings on before clear coats, this will greatly reduce the fading of the markings.

Maybe its one of those older style paint stick markers. We used them at the railway, came in white or yellow.

I wondered about those. Problem is, I've never seen them in black.

I think my neighbour put some marks on his 67 Beaumont firewall, and it's butternut. I'll ask him.

I try chalk on my black firewall and see how easy it comes off in the morning. Maybe on a painted surface it leaves a mark .

What about those wax pencils (the ones that you pull the string and peel the spiralled paper off of) ... that's what it looks like.

 They used grease pencils to mark the firewalls.
