1964 Pontiac Parisienne Convertible - Ingersoll Ontario

I may have posted this one a year or so ago. Check out the others in the garage- one is a wagon. I'd say the price is right on. This car looks very clean.

I've seen it and the wagon around town. They are both very nice.

Oh man. Nice.
And Westerns to boot.

But why the modern master with drums?

i used the exact same brake set up on my 63, the drum brakes
worked good (as good as drum brakes can) but the tiny single
single reservoir on a big land yacht always made me nervous, i took
mine of a mid 80's caprice and it was an easy and cheap swap

I remember all three of these cars were for sale at one point. I assumed they sold since I stopped seeing the ads. Is this a current picture I wonder? Does he still have the wagon?

..I think we need to do that. We just had to replace the Master on ours. Any tips or tricks to it? Appreciate any input as it sounds like a very good move.

I did the same thing on my 59 Dodge using a MC from a 69 Roadrunner.

i did mine about 12 yrs ago, we were doing the brakes on a sat morning

my mechanic used to work for cheverolet in detroit, and said he thought

any fullsize would do, went out to the lot and removed the master cyl and

proportioning valve from a fullsize 85ish caprice/parisienne on its way for scrap

if i recall, the only modification was some enlarging of the hole in the firewall,

it required only a couple passes with a file to make it fit just right, plumbed

new lines and blead the brakes, worked great, never a problem, and

much safer with the dual set up

They sell dual reservoirs that just bolt on for '64 Impalas on Ebay, and Impala websites.

If I may ask ,.. why did you feel it might be unsafe with the standard brake system?  I had a '64 Parisienne CS with stock drum brakes and single reservoir.  I had occasion to do some hard braking in different circumstances.,.. and the brakes never let me down. No different than any disc brake system I've driven.   I imagine if one had need to push it to 180km\h and come to a stop quickly ,... you may have brake fade.  But for normal everyday driving?

Not trying to disagree ,... I'd just like to know,... .  on a typical stock '64 cruiser under normal driving conditions,..what circumstances would justify the expense?  Or have you heard of some accidents related to drum brake failure?

Just for the safety of a dual circuit if a hose or line bursts under pressure you still have 2 wheel brakes.

I think its a personal thing..  If you want to upgrade, and spend the bucks, its good..

My old Pontiac has made "many many" stops from 180km and works great...  Its just a safety feature like disc brakes....  Its only got to save your life once, to be worth the cost....  Mine is not getting changed...  want to keep it original  lol

I had a 58 Plymouth with a single MC. We were heading out to a cruise night. I got to the end of my street and the brake pedal went to the floor. I used my emergency brake to stop (still scary as the Plymouth uses a drum setup on the driveshaft as a emerg brake- very ineffective). Had this happened on the highway I would have been screwed.
