65Camino and I are thinking about going to the auction. I have the auction catalogue right here in front of me. There is a pretty radical Custom 57 Pontiac on the block too,

I looked at the car in Thamesville/Chatam area in the spring of 03-near bought it, this guy bought it redone the car then died. If it doesn't sell on the block I'll be working the "Still for sale" desk and negotiate a good deal for you

Just noticed those darn flags on the front fender. Those should be gone with the hood. Looks nice though!

When I looked at the car it had been sitting since 1977 in a barn, it was repainted from silver to blue and had a wild big block in it, the tranny was out on the floor (had been used in a stock car), had chrome reverse wheels, the body was very good with minor rust around where the side trim is mounted, trunk pan needed work but not much-at the time he wanted $10,000 I offered $8000 and $8500 he wouldn't drop from $9000-I went home and sent for documentation-I called him back and it had been sold-rumour has it the guy spent $60,000 on it-Rick Simpson at Top Shelf had it on consignment for $40,000 three years ago, it ran at the fall auction-no sale.

I sent for the documents when I was looking at it (and still have them)-I forwarded the info to the registry-its the real deal-396/360 4-speed car, had a cowl tag back in 03 when I seen it in the barn

The trim tag is probably worth a few bucks all by itself. It could turn up in a few years at the Barrett Jackson on a rebuilt, used-to-be-basic-Chevelle ... complete with GM Canada Documentation.

Maybe the guy removed it to prevent it being stolen? Sounds weak but it is possible.

Why all the concern over the trim tag? It still has a VIN tag...that's what you use to verify the car anyways... repro trim tags are available...and since the car is documented anyone can have a correct trim tag re-made for the car... trim tags are maybe a bit more useful to cars that do not have documentation (which isnt the case with a beaumont). Trim tag is useless to anyone without the VIN to the vehicle.

Did it sell at that price or was there a reserve?

I hope he took the money because that one is a incomplete car with incorrect trim and a tuff sell.

It bid to $18,000 with a $30,000 reserve-I had the customer today willing to have me sell it at $20,000 net to them (I'm sure their minds have changed since) I think the car is good value-its the hood and aftermarket performance stuff holding it back. Kinda funny though when you have a real big block 4-speed car people want it to be that way yet they'll purchase a 6 cylinder car modified to this point. If someone is looking for correct this is not the car for them if their looking for a solid body thats had a lot of money spent on with performance stuff its good value.

Chevelle cross flags. This car has been very "personalized" and that will affect the interest from buyers. I would be livid if a body shop lost my trim tag for a factory BB 66 SD IF that's what happened. Why would you ever remove it?

Doesn't the SD have a double row of trim near that lower body line?
