69 Impala body and frame FS


I have been watching this auction on eBay and I have talked to the seller.  He has been trying to sell this for a month or so.

I wondered if anyone in Ontario or close to the Michigan border might be interested in it primarily for the frame.  I'm not sure what years this frame might work for a full size Pontiac but I though someone might have a use for it.
If your interested, I think I can get it back here to my place for about $1,000.  From there we would need to look at how far I needed to haul it to determine additional charges.

How much of a hassle would it be to bring this car across the border into Canada? I have no idea so that's why I'm inquiring. The last I'd read on bringing cars back, it was like the paperwork had to be AT the border a week before a person could bring it over. Perhaps someone with the knowledge of bringing cars into Canada, could share the appropriate procedures? Thanks fellas.

would this frame fit somone said  a while back they used a 69 caprice frame and had to mod the rear secton where  the bumper fits on is that true

This isn't a problem. When Norm picks it up get him to fax a copy of the title to you. Then you need to know what border crossing your using and get the phone number of US Customs and tell them what you are doing. They will give you a fax number to send a copy of the title to. THey need it 72 hours in advance. You will need to go into US Customs and have the title stamped and then stop at Canada Customs on the other side for Duty, etc. A parts car you may not have to do this, so call Canada Customs at the border crossing your going to use and ask them.
 Just declare the value and don't waste your time trying to come up with any stories, just pay the duty or taxes and be done with it.

One thing I've always been honest about is what I've paid for vehicles when transferring them over. The last thing I've ever wanted or needed is to have the government or ministry coming after me for false information provided. I always have used the same discretion when selling a vehicle too. If the guy I'm selling to doesn't want to pay the taxes on the value that I've sold him the car for, then I just simply won't sell it to him. Again, who needs the hassles. Thanks for the information on bringing things across the border. Simplifies things greatly if ever needed.

Same here. I can't recall which vehicle it was but years ago a guy wanted a fake bill of sale. I refused to do it and lost the sale. It was a low dollar deal but I didn't care. Like you say, who needs that hassle.

Also years ago I sold a guy a 67 Chevelle SS hood. It was pretty minty, and no repro hoods in those days. He wanted me to lie to his wife about what he'd paid me for it. I told him no way. He still bought the hood, and lucky for him, she never asked me the price.

I just thought of something else here. This is the exact reason why in Ontario, anything over 20 years old has to be appraised. The ministry has caught on to the falsifying of documents over the years. Heck, how many times have you heard someone openly bragging about, "I paid $3,500.00
for the car but the guy wrote the receipt out for $2,000.00"? It only takes one family member of a
person that works at a licensing office to say something like that, and if the employee is the reputable true to his/her job type, then it's a no-brainer they do and have gotten the word and hence the changes. Anyone I've ever known just about has claimed they've done it every time they've bought or sold a car. The sad thing is, if the government isn't getting what they think is their fair share, then they'll get it out of us other ways anyways! I swear they have think tanks where people sit in a room and come up with ways of adding more taxes. And we won't even get started on the HST here boys or you'll be here all night! LOL!

dont forget to check what the times are for the border that you are going to use,not all borders let cars cross 24 hrs.port huron is mon-thurs 8 to 8 fri 8-noon no weekends.

Hey Brian,
How long has this practice been going on that you've mentioned? Has it always been that way? Any time a friend and I ever brought a car back years ago, that was never an issue. We've brought cars back on weekdays as well as Saturdays and even Sundays so that's why I ask.
And it was always at the Windsor/Detroit Michigan border facilities. Do they still nail you a $100.00 if the car has air conditioning? We brought a '62 Coupe de Ville back in 1988 and even though the a/c didn't work in it, it was still $100.00. My buddy asked the guy, "If the car was built with air conditioning, but everything has been removed, would it still be $100.00?" His answer was
"Yes, by all means." Guess they have their own ways of telling whether it's an original a/c car or not even if all the gadgetry and controls have all been removed?

When I imported my 67 Nova SS 2 years ago, he asked it it had air. (The car is a factory air car). I said yes, pieces of it but some is missing. He asked if the compressor was there. I said yes. He said then you pay the $100 tax.

Had I known, I would have left the compressor behind as it's a common compressor, of which I likely have a couple. At any rate, I am told he was wrong anyway. Apparently, technically it's the evaporator core that carries the actual tax.
