Propane experts?

I need to buy a couple of fittings and regulators for propane. Do I need to go to someone like Superior Propane or do the big box stores sell that kind of stuff as well? I've never bought any of that stuff before.

Thanks.

And I should add to that question-

I need to get it down to 9" WC for the heater it's hooking up to. Does that require 2 regulators as one person told me it did?

Dang,  My dad would have had all the answers for you.

Check with Jamie at RK propane services in kenora.  They helped us out lots. And are good to deal with out there.

I was hoping to get parts here in Winnipeg to take out with me next time I go Dave. I may just have to do that though.

I always like to show up prepared and not have to run in to town for parts!

carl  just use regular gas fitting and make sure you seal up with yellow teflon tape, are you running propane appliances or natural gas

check your instuction packet but it should already be equiped with all the hardwere you need just run a black iron reducer or flexible pressure copper, yellow jaket with a wire shield or what ever your local buylaws allow make sure to check for leaks. that tank has a regulator on it at the out put valve?

No, I am going to run it off a bbq tank. I don't think they come with a regulator when you buya new tank. Haven't bought the tank yet to see if it does though.

No regulator came with the heater.

An interesting side note to the propane thing is how propane was the early automotive refrigerant and can be used in place of R12 or R134..

May sound crazy but it's true and does work although it's compatibility w/ some seals etc may be in question?.

There's still debates going on over the so-called reason it was phased out being a safety issue but history has proven little to support this being true..

Old cars w/ A/C and leaks that hold for a while can be charged w/ the stuff but like many things in life, it's up to the owner and person servicing the system to decide if they want to go against the law or not!.

* Please be clear that this site is not recommending this procedure nor am I...or anyone who resembles myself or any other site members!.

It says I have to buy a regulator to drop the pressure from the tank. It doesn't come with that.  I will have to do some shopping to see who carries the regulators. Also, does anyone know how I test to see if the regulator is doing it's job before I turn this thing on? I don't want to be ruining something or endangering anyone by having it wrong.

Your big tank at the cottage is already regulated down at the tank but I am unsure of the pressure. The second regulator you might need would be similar to the one on your tankless ho****er heater, is my thinking. I would guess there are regulators on the fride and stove as well. Most gas fittings are NPT. Although some may have a reverse thread.

I am planning to run this one off a separate tank though since the manual says it needs a 1/2" supply line for proper operation. I checked our neighbour's unit and his is running a 1/2" line on his heater.

I think I will just go to their place and get a detailed list of what was used to install their heater. It was done by a certified installer. Whatever regulators he used must be what is needed as their's works fine.

There are 2 types of systems we use. Integral (gray If fischer brand Brown if rego) simplified both regs in 1 has 2vents. Twin stage or 2 stage Red at the tank green at the house.

Carl has red regulator at the big tank of the cottage but it sounds like this is going to be a "stand alone" system and will need the double regulator talked about by AlienX.

Ian, I will be getting ahold of you for that, thanks. That would be perfect. I was thinking of doing a big tank. We have one but need it as a back up for the main tank. Last summer the main one almost ran out and that was a bit nerve racking thinking about how to keep the fridge going.

I will likely only contact you after the long weekend but I guess I see a Tim's night in our very near future!!!

Yes, I will come for it Ian. There is pressure mounting for a Canadian Poncho coffee night again, very soon!!!

Do we try for June still, or wait until after the July long weekend?

There may be some away on holidays if we wait till July.

Should I start up a new thread about coffee night?

And the funny thing about you posting this today is, I just assembled all my fittings tonight for this project to make sure I had what I need!!!

Do you know, is your tank a typical left hand thread fitting like the older BBQ 30 pound tanks?

Hmm, if so that will necessitate buying a different fitting for my heater then. I am guessing you are right though.
