Drive-In window speaker value?...

Ran into a fella who is selling Drive-In window speakers.  Any thoughts as to what $ one of these should go for?  Also, are some styles more desirable than others?  Feedback is appreciated.
thx

if I recall, the speakers have to be powered by the house system, so not readily usable at home.   Or maybe that's what the drive-in operators said so people wouldn't steal them.  Maybe they have a small amplifier in them that needs power?

Thanks for the feedback. This fella was originally asking $50 ea which was too much for me. (Although it looks like I can trade him a stack of old Austin magazines for one or two of them. A win-win for all involved I think.)
At the very least, I think they could be used in black and white photo's of the kids in the car. (Having said that, he did have one wired into CD player which would also be cool in the garage.)

If you could open it up you might be able to rewire and upgrade the speakers and wiring.

Well I was able to get trade a number of old Austin magazines, the odd Lucas part, and some old Austin salesman booklets for...(drum roll please)...two drive in speakers! One the old oval style, and one of the not quite as old rectangular styles. I think they'll be great for photo ops. I might even wire one into the kids tree house since they are weather proof. (The beauty is that they take up far less room that the old magazines. A fair trade for both parties I think...

I used to be a projectionist when I was a kid, right around the time drive-ins were shutting down. When the local drive-in closed, that I worked at, I was able to "inherit" quite a few of these speakers, some movie reels and even parts of the old projector. Back then, the light source was a carbon arc, much like a welding rod.

Anyway, I gave most of the stuff away. I kept a couple of the speakers. Put some decent speaker cones in the casing and I use them out on the deck all year round.

Regards,

Scott (LandShark ...)

Cool stuff!.

I had a speaker years ago but think I gave it away?.
One of the portable heaters they'd lend you if it was cold and the Drive-In was equipped to plug into the post is still here in a box though..

When was the last time any of you guys went to the Drive-In anyway?.
What's funny is I just went w/ the wife on Saturday night and saw the new Shrek show!.
It was a good show but short and we were gonna stay for Ironman but I'd been swinging from trees w/ the chainsaw all day and was falling asleep so we split for home after Shrek ended..

You guy's have any Drive-Ins left in your areas?.
The one we go to is here in Peterboro' but there's another still operating in Lindsay also I heard a new one's being built East of here out Norwood/Havelock way somewhere..

Hi,

There is a drive-in near Grand Bend. Nice way to spend an evening after spending the day at the beach.

There is also a nice 2 screen (I think) one just outside of London.

There used to be a cruise-in / car show at the Husky truck stop outside of London.
The evening before, the organization reserved the drive-in for the cruisers.
I would have liked to been there when the drive-in lot was full of old cars.

Regards,

Scott

Mustang Drive In is still open with the 2 screens. Love that drive in on the way to Grand Bend. Had a tail end of a 59-60 Caddy sticking up didn't it?

My youngest daughter went this weekend to one about an hour and a half from Kelowna in a small town called Enderby. I haven't heard of any other ones in B.C. but I wouldn't be surprised if they are a few more. Robin Hood was playing but she said the ride there and back was the most fun.

Last one I went to in Edmonton was an Eddie Murphy flick and the old Beaumont needed a boost at the end of the movie. Young fella working there wheeled out the boosting unit like it was an every night occurence.
Before that, I remember stuffing 3 buddies in the trunk of another buddies StratoChief.
Aaaaah, the good ol' days...
