Oshawa Cruise in "KILLED"

nonoThe Wed. nite cruise in at La Scratch bar & grille was suddenly cancelled, as notification from plaza owner came out Tues. nite,"Not to show up on Wed nite" or any other Wed nite, hows that for short notice.???? La Scratch apparantly closed up & Plaza owner said no more cruise's. This is the 2nd. cruise thats gone belly up in Oshawa at Plaza's. The 1st was at Zellar's on Simcoe S. The Stores & Swiss Chalet were upset at this as they lost business. The cruise in Port Perry has had to move 3 times in as many yrs, 1st was a change in ownership of grocery store & cruise was asked to leave, didn't want it there. Tim Horton's & Wendy's & grocery store took a BIG hit. Next it went to the municipal arena for one yr. & again told to leave, as it interfeared with the late season "hockey games" their concession stand took the hit on that move. Now it's at a church, right across the the road from arena, church group does the hot dogs & burgers etc, acres of grass all around their parking lot, so I hope they have a permanent home now. Don't these owners realize the $$$ that are spent locally at these cruises, or do they just see parking spots that they could be making some "bucks" on by possibly charging for the cruises. I can see the moves if you "outgrow" the facility, but when they give you permission to be there, then pull the rug out on short notice & expect you to notify all the people not to show up, is impossible & the "Road Ledgends" were going to have to post a person there tonight to turn them away before owner does a "FREAK" on them!!!!!furiousfuriousfurious

The local restaurant here in Ingersoll quit hosting a cruise in years ago because none of the people that showed up would even buy a burger or hotdog. They lost a lot of business on those nights as the regular customers couldn't get in the parking lot. Some guys would stand there eating sandwiches they brought and bitch that the restaurant gave out crappy prizes.

This is not surprising to me. It is private property afterall and if the situation is not working out the land owner has evert right to ask the cruisers to leave.

The local one near me is called Route 66 Cruise which is a roadhouse style restaurant.  I personally have eaten there once and I suspect I am in the majority of those attending the cruise. I have only been once this season and I think three times last season, so one dinner in four cruises - 25% of the time.

I find that I agree with Earl's remarks as well.

Jonathan, I've been to the Ajax CTC one, Only problem there is the restaurnt there[can't remember nameof it] is so busy & "slow' that by the time we came out to "do the cruise" it was over & cars were leaving, now we eat before going to it!! At least another restaurnt in the area gets the benifit. The Swiss Chalet at the old Oshawa site was busy on Sunday nites but got us in & out in record time, they were quite upset when cruise left as they lost a good deal of sun. nite customers from cruise, both car owners & spectators

When I moved to Wasaga Beach 4 years ago the Monday nite cruise was at a grocery store parking lot. Hard to see how that business might benefit from the cruise. As the number of cars grew the assigned lot became too small and location was changed to Wally World.
On a real good nite there is still room for all the cars plus enough room for all their regular customers cars. From what I see Wally World does benefit from the cruisers visiting the store. ( 2 weeks ago we forgot our chairs and went in and bought 2 )

The Wasaga Crusie is a 40 minute run  from our Cottage. I've been there and seen Ted's car there too. I'd say based on my limited experience that Ted is right, there seems to be good excitement there and shoppers coming and going. Last year Mary and I went over  we had dinner at the Swiss Chalet which is in the same complex, Mary went to Walmart and I breezed through the cruise.

The cruise at Midland where our cottage is much closer to is also at Walmart, not the same atmosphere there  but there is a Boston Pizza and Timmies as well that seem to benefit. It is Sunday night.

Ok Rick, Balm beach is Concession 10, we are between Concession 15 &16. Balm Beach is a regular visit for a dinner on the water or just hanging around seeing the sights. You are right it is Nottawasaga Bay.

The family cottage is off of Concession 13. Early sixties we used to rent right at Balm Beach. Lots of time spent on the go-carts and in the arcade.

Wow, small world eh, late 50's early 60 we were at Woodland Beach, Concession #2 and would often go to the Go Karts., mimi golf and Arcade. Our current place was built in '68. Do you remember the Barrel Works just up from the beach at Balm, dance hall and meeting place just about every wekend of my teens through University? Guess Who played there one time.

I stopped going when I was 16, so about 72. Have only been up there maybe 6 times since. It is definately the part of Southern Ontario that I miss.

Yes I get over there too, usually take guests over to the Big Chute then swing back down to Port Severn lock. We have stayed at Severn Lodge on occassion too for a Thanksgiving treat, he's got Lady Eaton's launch re-powered by a Chevy 327!

Now that is one awesome looking boat.  Saw some  for sale at the boat show last year. Some guy builds 3 or 4 of them a year by order only. A few different styles he builds but all of them are in excess of 100 G's
