For 1970, GTO and Tempest GT-37 recieved those exhaust exits. In 1971 GTO and LeMans GT-37  recieved those exhaust exits. In 1972 GTO recieved side splitter exhaust exists and Lemans GT recieved the exits shown.

It is my opinion that those exits are not original to this car although they are period correct. They could however have been an option on all dual exhaust equipped cars and if this is a GM exec car of course it could have been added. If I had a car like this I'd put them on. The cutout valance is reproduced and available from Ames and PY etc...as are the chrome tips.

 

Very interesting car with these options. Love that it's a 4 speed.

I'd love to own that one! I wonder what kind of shape it was in prior to restoration.

I agree, my 67 Firebird is Silverglaze/ black top originally,, was red when I got it , I was going to do it Verdoro green,, but havn't gotten there yet.....When I see a nicely done Silverglaze/ black top car...makes me think that would be real nice !!

Actually, I found the car on Kijiji 3 years ago. It was for sale by a gentleman named Keith in Omemee, ON (Between Lindsay and Peterborough on hwy 7). He also had a '69 Silver ElCamino for sale too. His pride and joy is his '69 COPO Chevelle (427-450 M-22) he bought new in 1969. He was in the midst of restoring this car when I purchased the LeMans. His wife's car was a '69 Chevelle SS 396-375 M-21 4 speed. He let me take that for a ride when I was looking at the LeMans. Great guy. Loved the Big Block with that solid lift cam. (The Chevy version of the "L-78") Pontiac had the "L-78" too, Carl!
Keith was an employee of GM Oshawa for 30+ years and had retired several years ago. Boy, I'll tell you, he sure had a lot of stories! He showed me pictures of himself and his wife with the COPO when he bought it new. Pretty neat stuff. He gave me a GM newsletter with the LeMans that had the obituary of the original owner. I also have a copy of the original invoice for the car. I beleive the original owner  paid around $4300 for the car. (I'll have to check the invoice as I haven't looked at it in a while).
I'll tell you, the more I write about this car, the more I wonder why I want to sell it......Quite a history.....
But then again, isn't that what muscle cars were all about?

I visted Keith about 7 years ago to see his COPO and L78 300 deluxe hardtop. Like you say, a very nice guy. I rememer a red  Sport Lemans being there, but for some reason I remember it being a convertible.

the silvers in those days were very bland, not much difference than a grey. there was no "depth" to silvers back then, which i why a lot of siver cars were repainted in other colours.
