My First....59 Laurentian

Hi Everyone,

I'm Denette. I am so excited to have just purchased my first resortation car, a 59 Pontiac Laurentian. My family has always been into cars and I am so pumped to be "joining the club". Mom, Dad and my brother all have cars, and I always wanted one, but a big one with fins. Not too long ago I was headed to a golf tounrament and stopped in a small town along the way for a pit stop. There she was. My car, sitting on main street with a for sale sign. Mom and Dad came with the trailer and I took her home the next day. YAY!
Unfortunatly I don't have a garage, so the car will stay at mom and dads, but that's ok becuase I am a total rookie and will need Dad to supervise pretty much everything. Haven't done much so far, just took out all the interior....it went pretty good and Dad only called me a "girl" once. ;) She'll be a work in progress for a few years, but that's ok!

That's a great question! When I find out I'll let you know! :P

Dad thinks it's a 350, but we have yet to pull the serial numbers to find out for sure. Should be going home this weekend to pull off the brakes and such, I'll see if I can find out then. Right now it is kinda donkey rigged, was a three inthe tree and somehow they managed to turn it into an auto....started by pushing a button on the dash. Dad got it to work off the column, but I somehow don't think chanel locks under the hood will pass safety! lol

Ya, that trailer hitch was a pain to get off! Welded right on....Dad did that part...I didn't like grinding near the gas tank....no

Welcome ! I'm one of the shy ones biggrin, fond memories of the '59, we had one in the family, coral with white 4dr Laurentian sedan. Always loved the dual fins and how they look from behind.

Welcome from Saskatchewan!! Nice project yyou have going there and very nice to see more of the ladies get into the hobby!!

Although, better foot/toe protection would be better advised when you are wire brushing with a grinder... smile

Thanks Everyone! I am SUPER excited! I'll be sure to keep you posted on the progress but you'll have to pardon my lack of technical terms, still learning!

LOL, as for the safety gear, I asked I should put shoes on and Dad said not to worry about it. Apparently getting "stung" by the wire is part of the process! Nice guy huh? It wasn't bad enough that fell out of the back seat after getting my foot stuck on the door panel or got my head wedged between the cemet and my other arm trying to get the seat belt anchors off (and after struggling for a bit, Dad finally pull out the magic can that made taking the bolts off SO much easier)! Sigh.....Dad's, gotta love em!

I am hoping to hit up cruise night again on Thursday...there was another old Pontiac there (56?) that I wouldn't mind chatting with whoever owns it.

Yay!
