So my wife calls me at work and and says "I have a problem". She starts out by telling me her parents were driving her crazy so she decided to go for a drive with the top down to wind down. She drives to nearby Thamesford and stops for lunch and takes it to a park on the outskirt of town (all this time she is telling me I'm thinking "She smashed up the car"). Well this kitten (about 4 months old) comes up to her and is doing the "take me home thing", purring, showing affection etc. He's pretty thin and another fellow at the park who apparently is a regular says "Oh, people dump their unwanted cats here all the time). A closer look reveals a paw that seems to be covered in some sort of industrial glue. It's as hard as a rock and starting to cause an infection. There's some stuck to his underbelly as well. Well, long story short I now have a third cat and a $600 vet bill coming my way. You'd think the vet would have some compassion and give us a cut rate! She told my wife that if we take him to the humane society they will put him down as there would be too much cost involved to bring him back to health. We are getting him fixed, all his shots, blood work as well as getting the paw fixed. I haven't met him yet as he is at the vet until tomorrow.

No more old car spending for a while. I guess it's her turn..ashamed
That makes it three cats, a bird, and a pile of fish..

Todd it says a lot about a person who cares for animals who would be helpless otherwise. They will repay you 10 fold for the samllest acts of kindness. Best wishes to your new member of the household.

I'm a huge animal lover ... more power to you & your Wife for taking care of the little kitten.
I found my little guy on the mean streets disbelief of Toronto at the ripe old age of 3 months.
He now has a great life on PEI (He thinks he has just moved 2 doors down and is still in Toronto)biggrin

Glad to see someone else recognize that the wife gets 'her turn'!  When this approach is used, the old car spending may cease for a while, but it's ability to continue in the near future is guaranteed!
I myself am a cat lover...very entertaining pets!
"...and a pile of fish.." - LMAO!

My son wants to be a vet. I can't wait for the day we can take our animals to him! Two weeks ago I rescued a frog trapped in a floor drain at work. I have no idea how he survived. I scooped him into an empty Tims cup and brought him home. He now is living the good life in our pond.

While I admit to not being a cat fan, I happen to like animals and certainly can't stand to see them suffer. Good job Todd!

Well, the little gapper is home. Man, is he affectionate! He has to wear the cone for a couple of weeks until the paw heals. Oh, his name is going to be "Poncho" wink

Who would abandon this face?

We need to fatten him up a bit:

Poncho is doing very well. He is eating like a horse. We took the cone off for the day and will put it on tonight.

WAY-DA-GO CONNIE & TODD!!! Ya know Todd? All you need to get now is a horse or a pony! Then you could charge admission for kids to ride it and it would definitely help with the feed & vet bills. And I REALLY have to agree with Carl TOTALLY in that I think yuz are getting SEVERELY HOSED as far as vet bills go! That's ludicrous! I know, I know, I know; whaddya gonna do when you encounter the same situation that Connie did? Unfortunately, it is what it is that the vet says it
is and that's all there is to it! That paw sure looks pretty tender too! YIKES! Connie obviously saved it's life for sure! I agree some good karma is LONG OVERDUE at your house buddy! So what's "Froggie's" name? Pipeline? Drain-O? Spot? Nyuk nyuk nyuk! Lucky comes to mind for sure.

The final tally was $490. That was for getting him fixed, all his shots, blood work, antibiotics, treating his paw (including laser treatment) plus overnight boarding. It's hard to tell if the price is in line or not.

I just nursed my guy (SuperFuzz) back to health from an ear infection.  Almost $200.00 bucks for (3) visits, antibiotics, and ear drops (more like grease ... we call him "Greaser" lately). He's back to normal finally!

Well more problems (it never ends here). Poncho was very lethargic this morning and felt really warm. Connie took him to the vet and he has a fever of 40C! He's there overnight. $300 to start...

Nice one Darryl, aww way to go all you animal rescuers, I've got 3 rescued/adopted cats here, along with all the wildlife that shows up for regular feedings outdoors.

(Too many birds to list, squirrels, chipmunks, and a deer and fawn whom I believe live in our ravine)

Update: My guy's ear infection is back, so he is a "Greaser" again. I got a second vet to look at him (another $120.00, not that it matters), I didn't have confidence in the first vet. Hopefully he will get better for good this time.

Todd, how is Poncho doing? When will you get a pet named Mopar?
