1958 Pontiac lineup

Hey all:

I was wanting to know what the 1958 Pontiac lineup was. I have a pathfinder project, and in my search for parts have come across laurentians, parisiennes, bonnevilles, etc.

Where does my pathfinder fit in? Could someone give me the 1958 lineup from top end luxury down to base model?

Dave

Thanks!

As I was looking at your list, I noticed that my neighbor's car is quite rare, he has a 58 Parisienne 6 cyl 2 door hardtop, in original unrestored condition, it was his Grandfather's from new....dave

@ = R.H.D. available in Canada but not in U.S.A. However, the only Canadian models actually built in r.h.d. were: 1149; 1549; 1593;1749; 1849; 1549 ckd; 1693 ckd; 1849 ckd; and 7549; 7593; 7749; 7549 ckd; 7739 ckd.

N.A. indicates not built in Canada

* L.H.D. only

N.B.

  1. Fisher Body and Chevrolet/Pontiac Model Numbers coincided for the first time in 1958.
  2. The Right-hand drive dash in Chevrolets and Canadian Pontiacs was the 58 Chevrolet Left-hand drive dash transposed with different scripting on the glovebox.
  3. The Impala and Parisienne were sub-series respectively of the Chevrolet Bel Air and Pontiac Laurentian series, until they became separate series for 1959.
  4. The Chevrolet Wagons were in theory in separate series from the passenger cars, and 6-cylinder and V-8 cars were also in separate series. However, the Yeomans were trimmed to Del Ray standard, Brookwood to Biscayne standard, and Nomad to Bel Air Impala standard, there not being a Bel Air equivalent. The Impala passenger cars had three rear lights, but the Nomad had the Wagon two lights.
  5. The Chevrolet Sedan Delivery was in theory part of the Truck range, but it was trimmed to Biscayne standard, and had "Biscayne" script on the sides.
  6. The Pontiac Wagons were all "Safari" badged, and were trimmed to Pathfinder, Strato-Chief and Laurentian Parisienne standard.
  7. The last year for Pontiac trucks, the 58 Pontiac Sedan Deliveries totalled 449 units, all l.h.d. They were trimmed to Pathfinder standard, but had "Safari" badging, not "Pathfinder".
  8. The Bel Air Impala and Laurentian Parisienne Sport Coupe and Convertible models had similar front ends to all other Chevrolet and Pontiac models, but lower rear sections which did not share any components with the Bel Air and Laurentian Sport Coupe. The rear-facing "air scoop" was of GRP, and of purely decorative purpose. Dealers offered fabricated scoops to turn cheaper Bel Air/Laurentian Coupes to "Impala/Parisienne" replicas!
  9. Canadian DiplOMatic cars were officially separate series, with "DOM" after the Model Number, e.g.1549DOM and 7749DOM.

Correct!

The South Africans had from 193X onwards to 1958 what they called a 'bakkie' which is Afrikaans for 'little tray'. This was a welded-in box that fitted in to the trunk and replaced the rea seat. From 1955-58 GM SA used the business sedan, and in the last year, 1958, they employede a US-sourced business sedan with a large box. For 1949, they imported some lhd El Caminos, and then probably in 1960, and succeded them with regular truck pick-ups.

There were no Chevy sedan deliveries I think but they imported from 1955 for a time Opel vans, which they called a Car-a-Van!

HEY !  Its great to see someone else with a Pathfinder. Since getting my 58 pathfinder last summer I have put over 10 000 miles on it while slowly changing it to a nostalgic rod.
