OLDS 260 V-8 Engines

These were the economy V-8 Olds engine from mid-late '75 until late '81. Were these ever built in St. Catherines at McKinnon Industries? Where they ever put into Oshawa built cars? They did go into LeMans and Cutlass models and some had the lightweight BW5 speed stick shifts. Just askin'!  hmm

Were they officially sold in Canada? There is a US '78 Cutlass with a 260 V-8 for sale in Greely right now just south of Ottawa, it is a US car.

From 1978 to 1988 St. Therese built Olds Cutlass for North America. The following engines were available during that run.
231 cu in (3.8 L) Buick V6
260 cu in (4.3 L) Oldsmobile V8
260 cu in (4.3 L) Oldsmobile diesel V8
301 cu in (4.9 L) Pontiac V8 2 and 4 bbl
305 cu in (5 L) Chevrolet V8 2 and 4 bbl

A guy I knew had a '78 slope back 442 black with gold rim, 305 4bbl 4 speed. Those slope backs drew a lot of criticism but I always liked them.

Thanks for the info Ray.

I tend to forget the St. Therese plant, and usually think of '93-'02 Firebird/Camaro production when it does come to mind. Out of curiousity when did that plant open and what vehicles did it build? I remember the big geffaw in Quebec several years ago when it was torn down after being mothballed for a number of years.

The slant back Cutlass and Century models were not a big seller back in the day, I think they only lasted the '78-'79 seasons and then they were gone. I really like the looks of the two door versions, and the 4 speed 442 would have been a rare bird for sure. I always thought GM should have made that design a hatchback, it would have been a natural for it.
