i will get a pic tomorrow but i got these heads from my brother but he doesent know were they came from. they have black valve covers that have 4 ridges on them and are bolted on by four bolts along the center. the only #s i saw were K GM 10 and 14102187. The oil fill cap was also plastic (not sure if its original) they look late 80s to me. They are going on a 59' 283. Not sure if they would be the best suited for my engine.
All 87-95 truck and car 305 TBI V8 engines got these swirl port 187 heads. These heads are TERRIBLE for flow, the intake port size is huge at 185cc but they flow less than any other production Chevy head! The only good thing about these heads is that they make excellent boat anchors. These are not for your 283.
i had a set of those on mt 87 Monte SS but they were warranty replacement,
Wow, they couldn't have been installed originally. The L69 was an outright performamce engine with it's aluminum intake manifold, 795cfm Quadrajet carburetor, Cross-fire Camaro heads and Corvette L-81 camshaft, was able to produce 180 net horsepower or something like 260 gross horesepower. These were for TBI engines. I'd say some one F'd you over plunking those on the L69!

If you want to wakeup the 283 use a set of 1996-98 305 vortec heads. With the small combustion chamber you will not loose any compression ratio and they flow really good. The only thing is you will need is the aftermarket intake to match the 4 bolt per side vortec head. Do not use 350 vortec heads as you will lower the compression ratio as they have 64 cc combustion chambers. I have taken apart vortec engines that have spun a connecting rod bearing due to antifreeze leaks from the intake manifold gaskets and the heads were always is really good shape. Otherwise just get a 3 angle valve job and hardened seats installed in your 283 heads and clean the ports up to match the intake gasket.
those little 283 /327 heads have impressive power production when cleaned up. ive had no issues with sunken seats the dont crack like hardend seats either
thanks for the input guys, i knew you guys would know. I'll just leave the original heads on. They aint broke, why fix them? What kind of additive would you recommend though, ive used stp in the past but i cant find it as easy now.
GM Engine Oil Supplement works well but won't do anything for the valve seats. It will help reduce camshaft wear. Are going to have that puppy ready to go to Hamilton next Sunday?
today thats the only real concern, but since you are going south you might be able to find some leaded av gas to help your situation but be warned mix it. that stuff does not like low octane engines 10/1 minimum
no, wont be ready by sunday. I have to drill a hole in the intake for an oil fil, or put a hole in the valve cover. After that i have to do the valve lash and then figure out what vacum lines to use and not use with the 4 barrel, and where they go. I still need front shocks, the ones i got were too long. Then after all that i still have to get insurance back on it!! LOL
I have up close pics of it on my 327, before i took it off, just incase it turned into a puzzle later, it shows what lines were plugged and what went to where, let me know if u need them and ill email u
