I owned one of those back in '81. Worst car ever....without a doubt. The turbo 301 was a gutless POS and couldn't get out of it's own way. I got divorced in '84 and gave it to my ex wife as part of the settlement. LOL.

Begs the question, what prompted you to buy it in the first place if this is how you feel?

Good question...

I sold my '74 Gran Torino, which was one of the best cars I have owned for the Trans Am....Pressure from my Ex, wanting to keep up the Jones' next door.

I looked at and test drove an '81 Formula Firebird with the turbo 301 in '89. I thought it was gutless but it sure looked good. A couple year's early I had a '77 Firebird Esprit with the Pontiac 350 and it was much faster. Instead of buying the turbo Formula I bought my '75 Grand Am with the 455 which I still have today. I've had several '78-'80 Grand Am's with the 301 and it's one of the worst motor's Pontiac ever built. I think it was built for the time's!

Drop in a 400, and bolt on the turbo stuff.

Alas it is historic because it was the last Pontiac V8 produced.

I can't agree with you but of course everyone has different standards and expectations. My 80 Grand Prix with the W37 package 301 4bbl and dual outlets behind each wheel was probably one of the best cars I ever drove.
