Chevy Engine or Pontiac Engine

Will a 74 400 Pontiac engine be a direct bolt up to to the 2 speed powerglide on my 64 CS?

The original 283 engine came in pieces, some parts missing and I have the 400 engine availabe.

Thanks,

Not if it's the American model engine.

Is there a way for me to find out? The 400 is out of my 68 GP but was not the original engine!

Does your 400 look like this ? Starter on the driver side oil filter on the passenger side. The oposite of the chevy engine.  If so its tha American engine and will not bolt up to a small block trany. different bolt patern.

I re-read this thread because I was confused but it just hit me, yes the 400 small block was a "Pontiac engine" in some Canadian built cars in 1974.

On the other hand if it looks like the photo below you will be all set.

Hey Tiny I think I will keep the 400 for another project but nice trysmile

Turns out it is the american made blue engine so it won't fit.

Plan now is to take the 283 to a shop and make sure it is sound and get them to do some of the assembly for me.

Thanks,

Frank

If you change out to a rear whl. drive Olds tranny[turbo 350 BOP pattern] it will fit with a few mods. Need Pontiac flex plate, mounts etc & poss. frt. yoke on D/shaft & of course new exhaust system at the frt.!!!!!
